This 6 track EP is just 5 pounds and available in any format available. The production on this CD really does the band credit!

The cover is quite dark and sinister, depicting the word Kaine on the front.  On the inner sleeve are some great pics of the band and also the lyrics to the songs, adorn the opposite page.  The back cover being reserved for the band members and the instruments they play.  All in all this CD has nothing left out…

Lies of the Forsaken: The chugging riffs just keep on coming with some great harmonies and clean but gruff vocals and my favourite track on the CD.  Some great melodies infused together with Rages vocals like a cup of your favourite tea or beer depending, gives this track a refreshing taste, and together is slightly reminiscent of pagan music. Love the words to this track and find myself repeatedly humming the tune, and of course playing the track over and over, so now it is etched on the brain!

Helpless Salvation: Great riffs to open with great bass line to build up to some awesome melodies and more gruff vocals.  Simple enough hook line that cannot be ignored. Great old school sound feels like I am back in the 80s and not a bad thing either…. They were happy times!

Entropy: An instrumental of grand proportion.  Love the guitar on this track. Melodic and technical without being too, flash!  Some great drumming and bass blend with the guitar perfectly and it does have that something special, although I love Rages vocals and actually miss his voice on the track.

Drum Solo: This is where Josh really shines. An awesome array of drumming. Some nifty drum rolls, a hint of the cymbals and a great idea to have a drum solo on a CD, not heard of much these days.

Violence Metal: Great opening with some ferocious drumming and then a technical piece of guitar work, blend nicely with Rages awesome vocals. A great catchy hook line through out the track. Love it!! 

For whom the bell tolls: Although a cover, it is still perfectly integrated into Kaines very own style.  Crisp clean guitar work and awesome drumming.  Rage more or less talks over the music giving it an atmospheric feel.

The thing about this CD is that each time you play it; it never sounds the same as you experience different things in it that you never heard previously on listening. I personally love listening over to Lies of the Forsaken and Violence Metal two really powerful tracks.

This CD has everything really, a drum solo, an instrumental and 4 other tracks that just go on delivering.  Well worth the money, you can not buy much with 5 pounds these days so treat yourself to this CD.  If you love “old school” then this is the CD for you.

Apologies to the band for not doing the review earlier, so I hope you are pleased with the results!

Elliot should really think again about re joining this band, his musical skills are perfect for a band worthy of producing such great metal!

Skyline Ablaze, Mojos, Liverpool 16th March 2011

Skyline Ablaze were the headlining band for the evening on the compact stage at Mojos.

Formed the latter end of 2009 and from Liverpool, their unique approach to their music is evident. Great guitar work from Paul whose face contorted with every guitar lick he played. Awesome drumming from Olly as always.

Always great to see these guys live. They are very down to earth with a supportive edge to other bands, which is always welcome!

They played 7 songs on the night too! Each one delivered as ferociously as the last.  Kerry’s hair just looked like a lion’s mane and as he lurched forward it cascaded around his shoulders, great to see that!!!

I was sorry to read on the bands face book page that they wont be playing “Paparazzi” again as it beats the original hands down! It has that great heavy vibe and really kicks ass! Maybe Lady Gaga should take note here….  :D

Kenny’s voice is a deep growl fused together with a powerful sound that is Skyline Ablaze! Delivered and executed awesomely to create a mind blowing set! Really impressive!

All too familiar, was the fact that it was Wednesday and so not a lot of people stayed to the very end, but great support from Grind Horizon.  Always good to see bands staying to support other bands on the night and not shooting off early, unlike the crowd, “why pay to see bands and then go early?” Does not make sense unless you have a long way to travel, but we were not going anywhere until the find chord struck. Skyline was definitely Ablaze on the night!

Loved the set guys you rocked it! Can’t wait to see you all again soon.

Cypher 16, Mojos, Liverpool 16th March 2011

Third up was Cypher 16, who are currently touring are from the London area.

This band has a very professional edge and approach to their music.  It showed in the stage back drop and the two large screens depicting their CD cover, strategically placed on the PA either side of the stage, and Jack and the rest of the band worked hard to get everything perfect, but like life nothing seems to run smooth sometimes.

The band proclaim on their “my space” page, that they fuse electronic and metal influences with hints of industrial to create their own unique musical mix and that they do! And also boast of filming in 2008 their music video “Symphony to end it all” at Gloucester Cathedral (where some of the Harry Potter films were produced) very impressive guys!!!

The band were plagued with technical hitches and faulty microphones, which was a damn shame as they could not have done any more to make it a perfect evening.

I have to say the fault lay with the sound tech that did little or nothing to help the band and just stayed behind his desk for most of the evening, and did not communicate fully with the bands at all.

As the band were from out of town, they seemed a bit aloof, but introducing myself to Jack guitarist and vocalist of Cypher 16, it was clear that jack did not give off an air of importance and chatted away happily to me about the band.

Cypher 16 played 7 songs on the night.  Sometimes the vocals were incoherent, and some sound was lost, again not the bands fault at all.  They showed true professionalism through-out their set showing that they have got the staying power, and showed a lot of support to the 3 Liverpool bands playing which was great to see, as did the Liverpool bands to them.

David the guitarist from Grind Horizon said to me after the set, “damn shame, they didn’t deserve that!” and right he was too.

I could sense Jacks frustration as the microphone just died and he tossed it on the floor in front of him and grabbed another mic.  Both of them were not stable and kept moving away as he tried to sing, but no support from the sound tech during this set at all.

Despite the problems Cypher 16 still managed to pull it off and the songs that were technical hitch free sounded great.  The band refused to die and kept on until the end.  Has to be said I love the titles of their songs. 

The band has a very melodic edge but yet still deliver the brutality.  “I am Scientist” has a great feel to it. Jack has crisp vocals and coupled with blinding guitar licks was awesome!

My only gripe was that the songs sometimes ended abruptly and seemed to cause some confusion whether or not to clap or just carry on listening.  But putting the technical differences aside, Cypher 16 are clearly going places and hopefully to a town near you, so check them out and give support to this great band.  I am certainly looking forward to seeing them again and hopefully with a better sound tech!!!

Scare Tactics, Mojos, Liverpool 16th March 2011

Second up on stage were Scare Tactics, seen before at The Zanzibar. Formerly called Hollow Point.  The band is old school metal with a twist of groove.

The band played 6 songs on the night, and although they did not experience any technical hitches they seemed in places not as tight as their performance at the Zanzi, but never the less, still managed to pull it off.  The crowd was going crazy at the front of the stage, but not without good reason.

Andy was clearly enjoying the set, and seemed very relaxed on stage as were the rest of the guys. Still the song “Drunk Fuck” has to be my fave song from the band as it is so catchy and you can’t help but join in the chorus. (Thanks for the mention guys… appreciated)

At the beginning of the song “Someone Else” Andy looked over at his Dad and told a story about how he was once homeless, needless to say Geoff gave his son the middle finger, but more out of embarrassment than anything else, but it sort of brought it home, and made me listen to the words more carefully, they did indeed have some heartfelt meaning behind them.

Wrong but Righteous was expertly executed and the guitar was amazing. Great riffs indeed, and fast becoming another favourite of mine. It has a great feel to it and created a great atmos that clearly the large unruly crowd in the mosh pit couldn’t get enough of!  One guy, just constantly wind milled through-out the set, bet he is suffering from serious whiplash now!!  But good on him showing such great support for Scare Tactics, they are indeed a great live band.

For anyone who has not seen Scare Tactics live… you are missing out. Check them out on my space and face book too! They very rarely disappoint! Great set guys looking forward to the next one!!!

Well what can I say other than it was not at the Zanzibar this time. Nice atmos at Mojos, cheap drinks and friendly bar staff, although the décor was very outdated… has nobody told them Elvis is dead?

First up was GRIND HORIZON.  I had waited a long time to see this band and boy did they deliver the goods!  A great energetic set to be had here.

I love this bands no nonsense approach to brutality.

Speaking to the guys briefly before the gig and the more mature of the bands playing, I found them to be very down to earth with just a pinch of craziness, well ok… a lot of craziness!!!! Especially when Dave the vocalist shouted out.. “We got no merch but we have boobs!” class!!!

The band played exactly 30 minutes, and in that 30 minutes played 7 songs. Their style is very reminiscent Sabbath, which gave it a dark atmospheric sound.

David, the bands Guitarist, let his hair down on stage, quite literally and became a Tony Iommi double, well a younger version of him anyway.  Just like going back in time. But this was not a bad thing as you cannot beat Sabbath riffs at all, and the band were indeed playing their own songs, but with that slightly doomy edge, with the most brutal of vocals, was indeed awesome to experience.

Some great drumming from Martin, who thrashed a good beat out along with Jon’s blinding bass riffs.  Master sun and Vilest stood out for me, on the night, great tracks, although hard to really choose a fave as they all kick ass!

The guys delivered a great set that lacked nothing and was clearly enjoyed by the rest of the crowd there.  I can’t wait to see these guys again! They are amazing live!

Great to share in your craziness guys keep up the good work and keep it brutal … always!  Once you are GRINDED there is no going back!
