Genre: Folk/Rock
Interesting Fact:
Kalandra is a small town on Kassandra, the westernmost peninsula of
Chalkidiki, Greece. In ancient Greece it was the site of the town of Mende, one
of the many colonies in Chalkidiki founded by Chalcis, the main city on the
island of Euboia. Mende was also the
birthplace of the sculptor Paeionius, (also Paionios), who made a statue of
Nike, which was put on top of the victory pillar in Olympia, and is currently
in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.
Biography:
Kalandra is a six-piece alternative folk/rock band based in Liverpool. The
band consists of musicians originating from England, The Isle of Man and Norway
lead by vocalist and songwriter Katrine Stenbekk. The music draws influences
from Norse and Celtic folk songs with a powerful mix of unforgettable melodies,
dark themes and heavy arrangements. "Onto The
Fire", will be released at Kalandra's
next "Northern Lights" event is at the East Village Arts Club in
Liverpool on April 25th.

There is no mistaking the beauty that is not only on the surface but
also buried deep within the core of Kalandra.
Each track is finely tuned to one of perfection and is attention
grabbing in its own right. Live the band
expel a wonderful magic that wraps you up in their joyous delights that
sometimes if not, always brings a tear to the eyes, as the emotions of Kat’s
voice rings out in haunting and lilting tone.
“The alluring appeal of Kalandra
as they take you on a journey, just keeps on happening, coaxing, teasing and
matching with total exhilaration.”
Together with the music that is powerfully centred on the voice, Kalandra’s lyrics remain strong and
meaningful.
I personally have never witnessed such an amazing sound that is rich
in beauty as it flirts with destiny that is sure to carry the band far in their
endeavours. Each song is intriguing and mesmerising and lures the listener into
Kalandra’s world of folklore and
fairy-tales – although it isn’t always a fairy-tale! :D
The alluring appeal of Kalandra

and matching with total exhilaration.
I am pretty convinced now that they are all witches/wizards that
have cast a spell on the people of Liverpool and wouldn’t be at all surprised
by that, but for me personally, I don’t need a spell to know that what I am
hearing is a band that have more than enough talent and know just how to
manipulate it.
Not only are their tracks superb to watch live, but their videos are
tweaked to perfection and give a good pointer in the direction, going as far to
say that Kalandra know exactly what
they are doing on all levels.
I find trying to sing the tracks my voice cracks and I am filled
with a serious emotion – it always happens when listening to Kalandra.
The air of innocence is always present, whether by watching live or
listening to one of their tracks – the word ‘spellbound’ always hits and makes
me wonder just how far Kalandra will
go before reaching their outer limits of success, because it’s not a matter of if - but when and although, personally I want them to make it, I will
also be saddened when they do, as the scene will just not be the same without
them in it.
