Fury is an amazing 4 piece metal band from the Worcester area, who take their influences from bands such as Maiden, Priest, Metallica and Megadeth and blend it into their own unique NWOBHM sound
It was finally a chance for me to see two amazing bands that I have followed for quite some time play together but never seen live due to distance and now playing live at the 02 Academy 3 in Brum, but due to public transport never made it in time to see The Reckoning L
On the journey to Brum we had Fury playing LOUD in the car and we were all singing along and our heads were moving. You just can’t fail to be moved, whilst listening to Fury! It’s impossible!
The 02 Security staff were not really welcoming though, it has to be said, and were confiscating everything in sight! None of them even smiled. Miserable gits!
But the guys from Fury had plenty to smile about as they crunched their way through a blistering set to adoring fans that filled the entire space of the 02 Academy. Not a spare inch of floor was visible! Fury however did more than make up for my disappointment and played to an excited audience to chants of FU-RY! FU-RY! With fists and horn salutes a plenty!
Julian the bands front-man and guitarist grinned as he witnessed the crowd before him, and launched into, “Into the Dark” and what an epic track it was. Alasdair pulled some amazing faces as he thrashed out some great beats and captured the moment!
The 02 also were live streaming the event which a lot of venues are doing now and a great idea for people who sadly cannot make the gig.
“Dawn of Survival” is still my favourite track from the band. As soon as the riffs started I felt my blood bubble under the skin and a tingle down my spine. Julian has the most melodic voice but with that edge of gruffness and it blends perfectly with the awe inspiring riffs that give Fury their own melting pot of no nonsense metal.
They worked the crowd up into a real frenzy, and it was clear for all to see that these guys love being on stage and playing to an appreciative audience. Who wouldn’t? But these guys have worked tirelessly and supported other bands The Reckoning being one of them, who have suffered extremely bad luck with losing past members. Alasdair has stood in for the guys on numerous occasions and the bond, between the two bands now go hand in hand.
It now goes without saying that if you mention Fury you have to mention The Reckoning in the same breath as both come as a mega metal team.
There is NO pretentiousness with Fury. It’s no nonsense and in your face! I love the fact that you can sing-a-long to the chorus’s which makes you feel part of the set!
“Eyes of the dead” was just a great live track as was “War Machine”, and was thrashed out with absolute perfection and precision. The awesome riffs from Joel were just amazing. His hair fell and changed colour with the lighting in a cascade over his black and white flying V as he attacked his axe with energy and venom, whilst Martin pulverized his bass and got up close and personal with the crowd.
There’s no mistaking Fury. Once you hear their tracks they stay locked inside your head, and then seeing them perform live the beast is finally unleashed and you find yourself singing along.
Thinking back over the set and I still get that tingle! I didn’t want the set to finish and felt quite deflated afterwards L but got to meet most of them outside which was awesome.
Such a shame we didn’t get there early enough to witness The Reckoning so gutted I could have cried! But hopefully they will be able to come up to Liverpool and play at a Helrazer event... here’s hoping!!!!
Not just a set Fury is a way of life! And now with an over 10,000 strong following Fury are striding up that ladder to fame and fortune. So if they are playing near you, do yourself a favour and go and check the guys out live! The experience will live on forever just as the tracks will in your head!!!
Never a nicer bunch of guys shall you meet... The Reckoning included!!
