Biography:
“Osmium Guillotine are an Essex-based metal band formed in June 2009 by James and
Elijah. Some notable gigs played include supporting Sham 69, John Otway,
Splodgenessabounds, and former Iron Maiden members, Blaze Bayley and Dennis
Stratton.
In early 2013 the band were joined by new bass player, Dan Thurgood!
Pete is now primary lead vocalist and the band have resumed gigging with a
brand new set list... In July 2013 the band signed with MGR Music and announced
plans to record and released their debut full length studio album on June 6th
2014!”
Not resting on their laurels Osmium
Guillotine have now produced their self- titled debut album and offer some
powerful slabs of metal along with just about anything else OG have decided to pack into its fit to
bursting seems!
Osmium Guillotine have found their allies in NWOBHM band Kaine both being from the
same area of Essex and their brand of heavy metal is not dissimilar to Kaine’s
either in style but with a slightly more tongue in cheek agenda.
OG are keeping the old school flavour alive and right at the forefront
in their mighty grasp as well as adding doom to their elements and some 70's punk, so there is a
lot of diversity, not forgetting ‘Hobgoblin’ which is a wild card but none the
less enjoyable!
Osmium Guillotine
Beginning with rather an urgent and sinister gait from OG. However it holds some breath taking
moments that linger – then you realise at the end that the guillotine has just
dropped!
Martyrdom
Snake like riffs bend and turn with striking abandon. Ploughing
through a tirade of thickly textured rhythms and with strong drum beats, it
chugs ferociously, so ferociously in fact that you can feel it in your gut! An
erratic track that in places sounds like the music overtakes the vocal.
D-Day
This sounds like an early Maiden track, yeah when they were good! But
OG have it nailed with this anthem. It
is constantly impressive as well as very expressive with the guitars screaming
for their lives! Superb Track!
Phobophobia
Possesses a certain intensity and provocation, driven by an old
school feel. The guitars prey on the senses with stunning attack. They sound to
me like early Maiden, not only music wise but reinforced with a powerful vocal.
Blight upon Mankind
A slower and more deliberate meander through its doom embrace and
sounds distinctively Sabbathy. However can’t complain love Sabbath and love the
doom genre – so winner all round!
City of Chaos
Fast paced, raucous and bold are just three words to sum this track
up. Escalating to an even greater height seducing you into its old school style
with a tenacious swipe.
Hobgoblin
The sultry strings are sharp and clean, but this is where the tongue
in cheek comes into play with a cheeky lyrical theme and music to match in a
kind of pirate way! I can just imagine the band swigging rum and singing about
Hobgoblins somehow! Nobody can say these guys are not diverse! But a great
track all the same!

debut that they have poured every last drop of blood, sweat and tongue in cheek
into it, but not too much of the latter, just enough for a small respite until
the onslaught hits!”

Goomba
Another doom laden track that caustically throws out some thick textured
rhythms bringing this composition to life. Turning from doom to downright
heavy, it holds a superb melodic swagger that washes over the senses in a volatile,
dramatic flurry of riffs! Did I say this is heavy! Yes it’s very heavy!
Into the Battle
I don’t think anyone would try and stop these guys going ‘into the
battle’ with this track – it goes on a mad rampage and attacks the aural senses
with vigour and sheer velocity offering bludgeoning beats and insatiable riffs.
Gobsmacked! World War III just started!
Breathe it in Son
Definitely you can breathe this one in as its dramatic sweep washes
over you and produces a climax of yet more heaviness. Packed with emotion and
solid force – the aural will never be the same again. Another blistering track
by OG!
Subhuman
Bring on the bass! And now the guitars! A truly all out raucously
scathing and brutal track that smacks with a constant chug! Potent to the last breath – no denying OG’s capability of
putting together an amazing debut album.
Summary
Constantly changing OG do
not let the grass grow under their feet. It is very apparent from listening to
their debut that they have poured every last drop of blood, sweat and tongue in
cheek into it, but not too much of the latter, just enough for a small respite
until the onslaught hits!
Its old school flavour is highly exciting despite being cooked in
the 80s, whilst the doom element brings in a feeling of slow seduction. Of course there is a lot of good chugs contained
in this that would and no doubt will incite a lot of head-bangers to perform
their talent whilst listening to it.
It’s ingeniously wild and emotive giving the listener no place to
hide. An all- out swipe at the jugular sums this up nicely as that is what you
get through-out it’s mad and creative rampage.
Any metal head NOT liking this album – there is only one sentence to
say to you: Beware heads will roll! Oggy! Oggy! Oggy! Oi! Oi! Oi! As they say!
