This foursome
hails from my home town of Liverpool and were formed around 2008 whilst all still
at school by Roj, Andy, Duffy and Jacob joined a bit later on, then in 2010
Jacob decided to part ways with the band, but the band decided that there was
nobody like him to play their stuff and reinstated him so despite a number of
changes as most bands go through they have come a long way from producing
covers by Killswitch Engage. 2009 saw the band come into their own and start
producing their own music – amen to that! On hearing it I was quite literally
blown away by the ferocious content of this four track EP.
The cover is
what you would expect for a metal band, with good use of colour and
containing really eye catching interesting artwork. It is a really dark and
intriguing cover depicting words that long forgotten souls have etched into the
crumbling walls and is somewhat very poignant indeed giving off the impression of frustration and entrapment.
Good to note that Roj also plays drums as well as sings just like Absolence do. Not many bands have a vocalist/drummer so kudos to Roj. Multi-talented musicians are priceless!!
Forever shall they Burn
This four track
demo starts off with a blindingly superb opening and some great heavy vocals –
this track is to the extreme, to put it bluntly! – I just love the energy
exuberated by Bury the Fallen. That
riff is to die for! I can feel goose-bumps on my arms getting larger as the
build ups and breakdowns are truly amazing. It is a frenzy of molten metal
right there before your ears. This is like red hot lava and will burn you alive.
Through Shadow
What a
screamer! The percussion and bass are thunderous and the guitar red hot with
some awe inspiring riffs that blend with some awesome chunky vocals. It is my
kind of metal. Epic track that goes on delivering right up to the last awesome
note! You can feel the vibrations of the speakers hit you in the chest. The
harmonies intermingle with a cacophony of sound that will drive you insane.
Angels Call
Slow paced ballad
and yet driving with beautiful stringed arrangement. But there is a twist as it
builds to a powerful chug that scalds with great heavy vocals that rip your
heart out. The duel vocals tend to spoil this track though. (Sorry Roj no offence) But I am still not convinced about the clean vocals that sound a bit out of place on this track and dare I say it lack a bit of venom. But it is worth noting that Roj is a trained vocalist so he quite rightly leaves the screams to Sean, so maybe I am jumping ahead of myself here. Still no getting away from the insanely tremendous riffs and beats that accompany this track.
Messages
The title track
and a nice opener with well-balanced rhythm and nice chunky riffs. The musical
content is superb. The screamed vocals sound more in balance with the music. The strings again mind blowing
beautiful come into play during the middle of the track. The drumming is
immensely superb and the bass hammers out a really good vibe!
To sum up this
is not a bad four track at all. With a few tweaks here and there this band
could be quite successful. But I do like these guys a lot and can see big potential
in the band Overall this CD has its moments – A really good and thought
provoking CD to listen to!
