Biography:

“Formed in 2005 by David Clark and Chris Webb; many incarnations followed in the search to complete the line-up, but with the songs written and ready to go, Dave and Chris began recording at Arkham Studios in 2009 on a part time basis, with Alex Cooper producing. In summer 2013 after a long and arduous search, Matt George came into the picture, with a voice capable of doing the music justice. Since then the band have been finishing up recording of the debut album, with a release pencilled in for early – mid 2015!”

Some superb riffs begin on this 11 track album from Devils Dice. The rhythms bounce with vibrancy and hold instant appeal. The catchiness of the track just wraps around your ears and draws you in. The creativity is rife and with plenty of melodic embrace it makes this track a winner for sure.

Passive Resistance is a real chugger that holds a wild imagination. Its sound is all encompassing and feeds the ears with alluring appeal. I Walk Alone again houses an electric riff that engages and is packed with rhythm although the vocals do sound a little weaker on this track. Forbidden Memory has an amazing ripple of sound that instantly enthrals.  Its beauty is contained within it ballad leanings and showcases the bands style as being hard and heavy but beautifully arranged and delivered with precision.

Libertarian holds an intriguing edge that builds to yet another electrifying level. It ignites with full on emotion and triggers a powerful and again engaging soundscape.

Chameleon (Right about you) is an all-our rocker that is textured with an edgy bass hook. It draws you into its mesmerizing forces and smothers the audial with pleasing riffs.

Hour of the Wolf stomps into the limelight with a tempered riff and solid beats. The vocal although clean compliments each note and paints an amazing picture that is accompanied by a wonderful catchy rhythm.

Destiny Calling is a beautiful array of strings that ignite a spark and will leave the listener dumbfounded at its catchy and vibrant textures.

Hangin’ on too long is a rather sneaky track that attacks the senses with a well-balanced riff and masterful beats that carry the vocal on a rhythmic bed of notes and is again full of appeal.

The Grudge is another electrifying encounter that ignites the ears and imagination as it excites with its addictive grooves.

Matter of Faith is captivating once more with a resounding rhythm that grabs hold of the ears and never lets go!

Summary:

This album is without a doubt a hearty rock encounter with good catchy tracks that leave their golden mark imprinted on your mind!

It holds plenty of persuasion that locks you in a mind-set that coaxes the listening further.  The melodies and rhythms are lingering with lasting impact and no doubt will spur you on to hit the repeat several times over!

“Sisters of… is a genre-defying project from St. Joseph, Missouri. Multi-instrumentalist Aaron Coker (ex-Appleseed Cast, Reggie & The Full Effect) reinvents the traditional interpretation of a 'band,' hand-picking a rotating cast of fellow colleagues to collaborate on Sisters of… material. Tired of musical limitations, Coker's idea of blending heavy and atmospheric sounds was realized in a track that evolved into the cornerstone of Sisters of…'s first EP, Follow Me as a Ghost. Highly sophisticated and thoughtful composition was guided by long time writing companion Chris Clark's (ex-Blackpool Lights) guitar and bass and supported by Isaac Khan for the title track. Layers of post-rock, metal, and experimental elements build evocative soundscapes that expand beyond the conventional themes of life and death.

Impressed by Follow Me as a Ghost, which St. Joseph's News-Press called "experimental metal at its finest," Crowquill Records invited Sisters of… to join the label and work jointly toward the actualization of Sisters of…'s first full-length, released in early 2015!”

“The Serpent” kicks off with a beautiful melodic core that oozes with spine-tingling moments and surprisingly a female voice of unknown origin. I can see why the band are genre defying now as I have never heard anything quite like this before, yes, its highly sophisticated metal but with an individual mind! The next track entitled “The Angel” works itself up into a nice brooding bounce of deep rhythms that sees the body obey their every whim. The guitar is precision driven and symbolises a distinctive pull that is uncompromised by a pulsating beat that is steady and forthright – thus holding so much allure and appeal.

“The Adversary” holds a very interesting bass hook that slides up and down your spine and brings out goose-bumps in their thousands. Your hair will stand on edge and you will feel a rumbling in your gut and not through lack of food as there is more than enough to satisfy the appetite in this spectacular track! It is music you can feel with every inch of your being, you can live it, breathe it, eat it, mould it, bend it you name it this is pliable and will leave open mouths everywhere! “Germana Cele” is a far reaching sinister ambiance that bristles with a haunting and melodic passion. There are no words needed as the music tells its own story. The uniqueness apparent as the notes are well-rounded and all encompassing. “Annabelle” is extraordinary with its phenomenal run of powerful riffs and beats that melt into one long flowing lava trail and hurried along with a sneaky bass that guides it with precision skill. It eats into the psyche and gnaws persistently, with a keen and forthright edge. Just shut your eyes and think of whatever the hell you like, this track will paint pictures you have never seen before! “Annaliese” with a soft whispering in the background the guitar chords allow for them to glide mesmerically through an unknown wilderness – ‘the bizarre meeting the exceptional’ so powerful it haunts and then possesses and the chills ever present – it is a very descriptive piece of music that makes you aware of your very soul. “Leva in Mare” is an amazingly beautiful track that lights the way with even tones and solid hues of ambiance.

Summary:

Certainly off the beaten path will take you into a world that is yet to be fully discovered and explored. Its colourful, bold, beautiful and an enigma. Very few have ventured into this landscape and I doubt a lot will, but then that is their loss! For me I could quite happily reside there.

The sophistication just grows through-out the album. It is very genre defying and I don’t think anyone could cram this band into a pigeon hole easily.  These guys are both individuals who express their characters through being forthright and yet seductive. This whole album is a constant pleasure to behold.

It can safely be said that the band’s music is flexible and can be experienced through the eyes as well as the ears and most definitely the mind!

The fact there are very few words sung matters little as the music is an encyclopaedia it will tell you what you need to see, hear, feel and explore and that to me is just pure magic!

You know already, and although I don’t like assuming anything, I think it is safe to say that this album is gonna some metal kick ass!” 

Doden Læger Alle Sår

The evil depths are reached within a millisecond of pressing play. This track is packed to the brim with a scathing throaty incoherent lure and a dulled beat that smacks of sheer malice.

Jomfrublodbad

Seriously heavy and binding in more gargled agitation it shows hints of a demonic yet full-bodied melodic encounter. You can almost see the mosh pit forming!

Kronisk Betændelse I tarmene

Picking up the pace this one steers in a disarray of gnarled beats and grimy rhythms that fester under the skin nicely!

Ad Ligbitum

Offering an inspirational battering of drum beats and an unholy guttural growl straight from the bowels of hell, this has instant likable traits that compel and enthral at the magnitude of fury that engulfs the aural.

Radbrækket

Yes aching all over probably due to too much head banging from listening to this. The squally pulsating rhythms are binding and ignite with a bitter flavour. The hearty bass hooks are pretty damned amazing!

Lemlæstelsens Kunst

With a slow paced crawl and guttural secretions feeling they are in a wind tunnel this track definitely has a predatory feel that is unnerving and creepy.

Kogt I Blod

Boiled in Blood Apt name for a death metal band and is just as dark and sinister as its name suggests – incorporated in its heavy structures are a hint of doom but it soon leaves that thought behind as it ignites into one of frenzy and total annihilation.

Gravrust

Another twisting, seething, raucous encounter with incoherent vocals that swamp the audial with impending malice and mayhem. The rhythms come to life (death) further on in the track and bounce with eager enthusiasm.

Dodsfald

Continuing with its urgent bold rhythms is Dodsfald just as deadly as its name and the music surrounding it. The rewarding slabs of feisty metal are apparent and very magnetic hence the pull felt when listening.

Det Gor Kun Ondt til du dor

This is a rather evil twist of rhythms that pursue a doom laden feel within its dark claws. You can feel the goose-bumps appear down your spine in a rush of what feels like broken glass.

Summary:

Well it was safe to assume that this album would kick some metal ass.  It may not be an all-out frenzied affair at times but there’s an awful lot of fuelled aggression contained within its confines that don’t stay confined for very long!

The good thing with this kind of metal is that it is like an injection that goes into the skin and infects, blackening the blood and clouding the mind. It is so easy to get wrapped up in its swathes of surging and strikingly bold encounters.

The guitar at the end of Det Gor Kun Ondt til du dor is jaw dropping as it takes on a ‘life’ or should I say ‘death’ of its own? Among the chaos and disorder and steaming through its paces, it conjures up a mesmerising treat that it seems the band have left until the very end to delight and taunt.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand Danish it matters very little or indeed at all, in a death metal band – just let the music speak for itself!

“Formed in 2002, Dysentery was brought together with the intention of forging obscenely brutal death metal. Since the band's inception, they received great acclaim for their 'Slaughtered Remnants' demo [2003], and the infamous Dysentery/Gutrot split 'Excruciatingly Euphoric Torment' [2004]. The juggernaut now continues on in the new chapter of their guttural conquest; the 3rd full length 'Fragments.' Out July 10th worldwide once again via Comatose Music, the album takes their blend of brutality to a whole new level - a bulldozing attack of blasting, grooving insanity fused with punishing, slamming intensity. With the subtlety of a brick to the face, Dysentery is primed and ready to destroy!”

The anticipation grows steadily as the first track ‘Onset’ on this highly charged bulldozer opens up and reveals its sharp dagger like teeth ready to bite with a caustic revenge. As the second track ‘Led to Terminal Ignorance’ spews out a feisty wind tunnelling vocal onslaught can be witnessed and you can literally feel your blood coagulate and twist into knots of sheer and unadulterated pleasure. ‘Paranoid Division’ has a harsher and shriller feel to it, although none the less murderously savage, coaxing the audience with its bony fingers into a monotone haze of ballistic ambiance, it’s enough to make one feel slightly paranoid! ‘Grave Evolution’ is a battering ram of malignance that airs its sinister gait in a badass manner! It is reinforced with un-subtle jabs of rhythmic prowess with a powerful belly of seductive madness not far behind and outlined by a shot gun of pummelling beats. ‘Reflection of Repugnance’ is increasingly enjoyable as the cookie monster comes out to play and once again delivers a heavy blow of ‘stark reality’ to the cranium in this devilishly absorbing track!

‘Invocation of Parallel Bloodlet’ it is every leech for himself in this tempestuous frenzy of utter madness! In fact forget the leeches this track has the potency of causing the listener to do the act themselves and suck their own blood from their veins as it intensifies its humongous levels of imagination on the general public – this should carry a health warning! ‘Neurological Snare’ continuing its blood bath of savagery this track unleashes a further appetite of destruction that flirts dangerously with harmonic and sultry endeavours. ‘Immersed into Misanthropic Turmoil’ yes I know the feeling all too well! Erupting into a blasting hell of rapaciousness that rains down on the un-weary like acid rain.  The tracks rebellious attitude never loses its intensity and grabs like a mechanical digger, squeezing tighter until there is nothing left. ‘Veiled Narcissism’ like a hammer blow to the skull this track leaves its vulgar mark and forcibly takes charge of its ever deepening charismatic flanks of metal and sticks them into the audial like a hot knife through butter! ‘Within Descending Skies they will suffer’ matched with a boisterous riff and compelling beats the vocal scourge scathes the depths and in a twisting motion knots it all together in one all-out brawl of feistiness. ‘Voice of Deprivation’ they said it not me, although they were right! The vocal chords are charged with severe caustic acidity and will burn the aural with a scorching voracity in this the bands third from final track on the album. ‘Divinity from the Void’ expands with amazing guttural dexterity, while the harsher tones literally rip you a new one and delve into its familiar territory as the guitars shriek in utter pain and anguish to an angry pulsating beat. ‘Oblivion’ is the final track on this repugnant monster of an album. Is it that time already? Time flies when you are having fun and this is what fun is all about. The brutal slamming of this album has been a great joy to experience.

Track after track has savagely mesmerised, created agitation and anticipation and literally stopped the clock washing away time like a wave on a beach. It is too repugnant to be grand but yet it holds a mysterious magic that has to be explored and truly discovered and each track unlocks the next one to open out a banquet of exciting flavours and rich textures that your ears can’t and won’t ignore.

It embraces and at the same time can push you in the opposite direction making it a thrilling listen, because you never know what part of your anatomy is going to be destroyed next!

“Wicked Inquisition are a doom metal band based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 2008 by Nate Towle, the band has found a common middle-ground in doom metal, incorporating a wide variety of influences into a powerful sound, primarily inspired by artists such as Black Sabbath, Budgie, Blue Öyster Cult, and Trouble.

At the moment, plans are to continue writing new material for a full length album. With the band's extended play "Silence Thereafter" receiving positive reception from small-scale reviewers, the band is eager to continue moving forward by writing, performing, and recording music!”

Not as I was expecting Wicked Inquisition are more fired up than the normal doom laden bands. Black Magik Nacht has this fire in its belly that ignites like a match to a flame! The carnivorous chunks of metal are rhythmic and exhilarating! The frets are well explored and executed to the max! One amazing track and a great way to open the album! Crimson Odyssey is a precise and slower tempered track, however its poignant message is clear. Sounding a lot like early Sabbath makes it an easy track to wallow and revel in, while the next track Sun Flight packs a vicious punch to the gut, putting a spell on the proceedings that lures the un-weary into their lair! With huge sized grooves it makes for a dramatic listen that is irresistible! M.A.D. is another rampage of feisty grooves that slow to a doom laden pace and creates a darker and more ambient phase, but none the less heavy! With sneaky bass hooks that lick the ears with devious contempt! In Shackles borders on epidemic levels of groove that forgets it is of the doom genre. Death of Man stomps into view with momentous beats and significant fret work! The vocal qualities weave their magic amid a tempestuous wave of sounds. Tomorrow always knows is a seductive composition that strides boldly with driven, unmerciful rhythmic content. Wicked Inquisition the bands title track closes the album and sets it sights on returning to its slow doomed edge grooves that licks the lobes with relish!

Summary:

This is no ordinary doom band for sure.  It concentrates on producing hard edged, powerful grooves that balance the tracks superbly well that adds in an exciting quality. The nimble fret work is a joy to behold. A lot has gone into these 8 tracks which also contain a lot of remarkable rhythmic prowess that gives the tracks that weighty feel. Every beat and every riff is tailored to melt the ears in such a way that is hard to ignore. It is savage in its own right without being totally damning, painting a very strong picture that is truly inspiring.

The whole album is packed with moments to savour and explore. The band have expanded their doom to new levels and given us a taste of fire and fury that exudes through each track in turn.

Well worth taking the time to listen!

Biography:

It seems the doom and gloom has been spreading over London since 2004, in the form of Dead Existence whose 22 letter word to describe themselves is none other than “EEEUUUURRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!” and although in one sense it does sum the band up pretty well, but not in the negative sense, it is more a positive one as the music is powerfully bleak and primitive in its sludge, doom kind of way!

The unembellished ‘Consumed’ is a towering inferno of grim and blighted riffs with scathing vocal encounter. However, the power that exudes from its muscular body – (not to mention Jake’s) is one of extreme dismal pleasure, for which all sludge/doom heads will understand.

Low toned guitar and bass are prevalent here as the track ‘End devoured by Beginning’ looms large. With clockwork precision its long strides of mesmeric melancholy fights off tempered and woeful rhythms that bite hard and backed up by a powerful vocal onslaught.

“...” Say’s it all really! – this is an instrumental of despondent riffs and eerie noises that prowl around the senses and pokes a bony finger in the eye of the disbeliever! So cold it is virtually glacial.

Plucked from an obscure dimension is “Worthless” that drags its forlorn carcass into a dim light of gloomy madness. It weaves in a meticulous manner and creates a perfect doom laden path that begs to be followed.

“Tear apart the Veil” There is nothing that would stand in the way of this track as the forceful malignance breathes its dark and fearsome gloom into the sagging veins of the weary! Its sinister guise leaves one in a state of intrigue, as it continues on its way the thunderous strength twists into a mournful chasm.

“Obsidian Black” is probably the only track that pummels some fearsome energy into its addictive veins with a thick texture of malignant grooving and strong deep riff’s that actually excite in a disconcerting way of course – this isn’t sludge/doom for nothing!

“Delusion of Hope” is a track that breeds anticipation – it’s still a very strong contender for doom but this time it shows a different side to its character. Still eerie, still sinister but that haunting note that trickles through-out amid an echoing of simulated voices and vibrating noise is sheer genius, it conjures up evil images in its sullen mode of play and another superb offering from the band.

“Regretamine” is perhaps one of the bands weaker tracks, and I am pretty surprised they left this one until the end. Although it does have its moments of utter neurosis and has an unusual name, but for me it hasn’t ticked all the boxes this time but after listening to Delusion of Hope I feel thoroughly spoiled. Perhaps Regretamine will grow on me after a few listens, but the rest of this album is filled to the brim with ‘endless misery’ of the very best apocalyptical and emotional kind!

“My God-Given Right is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by German power metal band Helloween. It will be released on May 29th, 2015. It marks the first time the band releases five studio albums with the same line-up!”

Founded in 1984, almost a life-time ago, Helloween have always been there in the background like part of the metal furniture, churning out album after album and their album covers are just as striking as the band themselves and adding to their plethora of albums is “My God-Given Right” making it 15 albums in total.  Highly impressive, when you think a lot of bands never make it past their first album, so longevity is important.

The first track ‘Heroes’ is a real thundering composition although undeniably powerful it also bristles with quick-fire melodies and rich riffs that lick the ears with malice. ‘Battle Won’ again oozes with liquid metal and a fist pumping glory that was well alive in the 80’s (and today it seems) the title track ‘My God-Given Right’ boasts an anthemic tingle of excitement. ‘Stay Crazy’ is a rather poignant track that explodes further on into a well-rounded melodic bait but the words “Stay Crazy fresh as a Daisy!” seem a bit out of place to me.  ‘Lost in America’ pushes on with fire in its ravenous belly while ‘Russian Roule’ holds a sparse riff that expands into a shrieking encounter, bursting with plenty of deep rhythmic prowess. ‘The Swing of a Fallen World’ holds a more sinister bait that sweeps in a predatory manner and slower than usual, but none the less heavy as f*ck! ‘Like Everybody Else’ is a beautiful track that showcases Helloween’s softer tones that turn malignant further on, but still poignant and rugged in all the right places, creating an unusual track. ‘Creatures in Heaven’ sees some electro hints adding intrigue into the mix and give off deepening rhythms that seduce with allure and appeal. ‘If God loves Rock n Roll’ I think there is far too much mention of God here tbh, but apart from that the track bristles with energy. ‘Living on the Edge’ draws its stamina from the strong riffs that manifest themselves in a blinding rhythm. ‘Claws’ aptly titled for a track that leaves gouges on the skin with its virile twists and raucous attitude! ‘You, Still of War’ is quite an unexpected track that floats in a dream-like state until it hits a black smog and unleashes a thunderous fire.

Although power metal isn’t one of my favourite genres I can’t fail to be impressed with Helloween’s lust for life, with the added elements of diversity! At times I feel the vocals don’t do the music justice, but I expect that is down to me listening to loads of death metal and so un-used to a clean coherent vocal, but Helloween have more than proved their point over the 31 years they have been producing metal, 1,678,667 fans can’t be wrong, and it seems Helloween are a hardy band that show no signs of abating.

The textures of grabbing beats and unrelenting rhythms are rife for a stirring of emotions, topped with plenty of melodic quality, there is more than just one track on this album that can, I am sure, appeal to someone no matter what a metal heads favourite genre is.

It is straight from the heart and flourishes with hooks and melodies a plenty, igniting with passion that Helloween know only too well how to produce and do so in their own particular style!
