The first track ‘My Hearse’ begins very sparsely although there is plenty of ambience and atmospherics. The vocals are soft and almost whispered. Yes, the track is gloomy but what do you expect with a title like My Hearse? ‘Good Night’ has the same notes running through them and really gloomy. When I used to write words back in the 70’s they always turned out sad and gloomy too! But if I remember rightly, Ben wrote this as a farewell to his beloved Cat, which makes this more of a very sad track. ‘Daggers and Thorns’ is a very atmospheric track with a haunting keyboard, which sends shivers down the spine. ‘Die with you’ holds a sweet little melody, and blends a soft vocal to an atmospheric background. ‘Paralyzed’ possesses a metronome beat and shrill pitched notes, but sadly the vocals sound off-kilter and a bit too monotone to be all engaging. ‘I’ve been a bad Kid’ haven’t we all at some point? This is an atmospheric, slow-paced, doomy track, which shows Ben is indeed sorry for being a bad kid! ‘Hail’ reaches out with some beautiful keyboard notes that are dark but light at the same time. It expresses itself with a melodic flow and haunting vocals that suit the track to perfection allowing for plenty of atmospheric doom. ‘Stoned’ is by far the longest track on the album at seven minutes and thirteen seconds long, and the most intense. It imposes on the senses in the most foreboding way possible, with haunting echo and radiating an atmospheric fear almost, which is likely to send shivers down your spine and then some!

If you like your music doom and atmospheric ridden then this will be a good album to buy, arguably, if you are prone to depression then maybe not! But one thing is for sure it is dark, haunting and mournful.

Thunderous and deeply resonating this is one powerful album by Kant Kino, strangely enough from Oslo despite the German language, which I love profoundly, although the band don’t sing in German or Norwegian but English, however, still bouncing with tenuous rhythm and with a snatch of lively activity, some tracks more than others but especially ‘NIMBY’ its quickening pace has the EBM ferocity and stamina and is such a memorable dance track! I love the deepening harsh rhythms that ignite instantaneously, with the synth notes wrapping themselves around the ears in pleasurable comfort.

Not all the tracks are deep filled with bouncing rhythms as on KAIIbner Phenomenon the track is slower in pace but none the less captivating in its own right and producing haunting rhythms and samples.

‘Annihilate’ is a fast paced dance track with resounding EBM familiarity! It is a track that really has to obey the EBM law. I have played it several times already and liking it more and more. ‘Wrong’ is a passage that’s definitely on the RIGHT track, with energetic rhythms and fiery melodic power. It incorporates a simple but effective sprinkling of synth notes that engage on all levels.

‘Want’ incorporates a bouncy rhythm that sounds like sleigh bells and probably is as anything can happen when listening to EBM/dark electro music and one of the reasons it is so exciting – the feeling of ‘what is going to happen next?’ is intriguing and this track is one such track! ‘Step-up’ is a jingling and hypnotic ramble of seething vocal and memorable rhythms that dance on their own! ‘Maybe’ offers a female vocal which suits the track to perfection! It is sung with a monotone reflection and spiced with hungry beats and devilish rhythms. ‘Substaat’ is a profound track that although is slow and deliberate in pace holds plenty of ambiences, but definitely not a dance track. However, it offers plenty of audial pleasure. ‘Nag Gag Slower’ is a hypnotic bundle of mesmerising energy and the female voice is back with a vengeance. The melody simply slaps you in the face but with subtle rhythms.

NIMBY is most definitely my favourite track on the album, although the rest of the album bears a good breeding ground for similar tracks to be created, but don’t forget to obey the EBM law now! Time to dance!

“Conceptualised and formed in 2012 on a corner desk of a bedroom in Charlotte, North Carolina, IIOIOIOII (simply pronounced I.O.) is the brainchild of one Chris Gurney - a prolific producer and songwriter who is well known within the international electronic music community for his original tracks and remix work.

Initially a low-key, 5 track digital only release in 2015, the expanded edition of Post Brimstone includes all five original tracks plus the brand new song In Disguise and diverse and innovative selection of remixes from Avarice in Audio, SØLVE and label mates Nature of Wires. Chris Guerney’s vocals are what can only be described as haunting and well-balanced with a melodic tone and perfect for the music he actually writes as well as produces. The first track ‘Face them all’ has that captivating sound that bubbles with a tempting rhythm that you can’t get enough of. ‘We are the One’ has a sweeping synth sound that smoulders and again captures a balanced melodic trait that draws attention to itself. ‘Second Chance’ the choppy synth notes are so prevalent in this track and simply guide the ears to their destination, and yet the track is smooth as velvet! ‘One Moment’ can certainly boast a sweeping melody and a soft gentle vocal which tempts and grows on you the more you listen. ‘Until there’s nothing left of us’ sadly, this track sounds quite dismal and uninteresting. ‘In Disguise’ gets back on track with some superb synth rhythms that return you to a captive state.  One Moment (Nature of Wires Remix) is an addictive bubble of rhythms that hit the ears like machine gun fire and sounds dark and mesmerising. We are the One (Avarice in Audio Remix) yes, this track really hits the tempo and bounces off the walls with a raucous and virulent encounter! Second Chance (SØLVE Remix) is another dismal track that offers very little in captivation or engaging tones, and rather annoying truth be known.

Apart from two oppressive tracks the rest of this album has a lot to offer, but it is well documented that I prefer a rumbustious rhythm to a slower more deliberate caper. I adore an addictive rhythm and there are plenty to be had here!

Chuck Death is from Necrogenic and uses B.C. Rich guitars. ‘Leptospira’ begins with a dark ambient passage that will leave you in no doubt that these three guys are masters of blackened death and furthering on fast thrash excellence! The brutal growls say a lot, mainly to expel a gruesome harshness that bristles with distinct character. ‘Debellation’ rattles and battles with its demons through sampled significance and of course a deathly thrashing riff, along with a blasting kick beat and repugnant vocal entourage. ‘Ashes Caste in Darkness’ begins exactly how you would expect with a sprinkling of ambience and a sense of foreboding. The haunting strings take effect immediately until a fast and ferocious explosion takes place and erupts into fiery madness. ‘Elegy Nocturne’ is another haunting little track with added harmonica that makes it sound medieval and sinister. It is just a short piece with no vocals but still, manages to leave an imprint. ‘A Sinister Process’ rushes back to its comfort zone with fury and chaos attached to its muscular creative nature. The riffs resemble crazy horses, while the vocal adds menace to its unique enterprise. ‘The Triumph of Death’ Is a very unique passage that begins with classical strings and quick excerpts of growling furious vocals intermittently, until a little further into the track and then it is every man for himself. It doesn’t lose its stringed imagination altogether although it is mainly dominated by a powerful force of bass and kick beats.

Time seems to go nowhere when listening to these six tracks, all too soon they are finished and you are left with the feeling you want to play them again. There are melodic rhythms attached to this display of mixed emotions and they all come into play very soon on the E.P.

The mix between blackened death and thrash always works well and takes away from the tracks sheering off in one direction, adding to the deep depths of intrigue as well as expanding creativity to the maximum.

Zora is a brutal death metal band screaming its extreme hate from Southern Italy. The band were born in 2003 and with the first cd-demo Dismembered Human Race shot its first scream of total repulsion with attitude, and for all those people who day after bastardise every sphere and aspect of the human world ... therefore new work began on U.V.A. (Undisciplined Violent Aggression,), and was produced in 2004. A mini-cd was composed with six new songs and produced, like previously, at Sound Farm Studio (Italy). During 2005 the Italian label Eyes of the Dead Productions reprinted the first demo-cd Dismembered Human Race to produce a split cd, and in 2005 Zora signed a contract with the American label Malicious Intent Records which reprinted the mini-cd U.V.A. In 2009 a new split cd called 4 Ways To Scream Your Hate and a year later the Austrian label Bloodred Horizon Records released their first full-length CD Gore, composed with ten new tracks, and signed a new contract for the production and distribution. In 2011 a new single Slave of Mind followed by another single in 2014, Abracadacab, both contained on an EP called Two Shots in 2015. In 2016 Zora, with GLK Molè on guitar, Giampiero Serra on drums and Tat0 on vocals and bass, released a new full length called Scream Your Hate, with nine tracks of pure extreme raging brutal death metal!”

If there is one thing guaranteed to get my blood racing it is the sound of brutal death metal, be it from the UK or Italy or wherever a band are based on performing it. The sheer aggression and attitude of such music, for a real hardened metal head, can definitely be described as ‘music to the ears’

Being no stranger to the music that is now likened to an exorcism, or an orgasm, whichever you prefer, I have to say that Zora has my undivided attention!

The build up to the first track ‘Dripping’ is incredible! You can feel the deep penetrating riffs in your gut ready to explode with baited breath and furthering on the track just builds further. The most orgasmic thing are the tremendous vocal range that the band execute is a sheer delight to behold. Its steady rhythm really has a grip on the senses. ‘Outcast’ is far heavier in rhythm but the vocals still delight in getting under your skin and making you sweat profusely! The gargling vocals are precision driven and superb! ‘Blinded’ just gets stuck into its paces and hits the ground running, again with some ‘off the scale’ vocal squeals and low toned guttural pleasure. ‘Slave of Mind’ possess a serious threat to the aural cavities, especially when the volume is on 11, the rumbling throaty growl hits like a ton of bricks coupled with some magnificent riffs and blast beats is definitely a winner on all accounts. ‘Refuse’ surprises with some Italian, although I have no idea what they are saying, I can guess it isn’t nice just by the tone! It blasts off into an obscure metal void and whips the senses with a hearty grizzling as it guzzles every sense you possess! The quickening rhythm chews at the ears and parts with an unusual ending. ‘Trapped Mosquito’ sounds just like its title. Its fast buzzing tempo ravages the senses and literally pulverises with attention-grabbing ferocity. ‘Banquet of Flesh’ is a dark, heavy foreboding of short choppy vocals that are out to destroy! Erupting blasts tempt with utter contagion and dynamic addiction. ‘Abracadacab’ sounds like the Italian version of ‘Abracadabra’ it may well be, however, not taking an O-Level in Italian who knows? But one thing is for sure, it is mighty heavy and rippling with vehement poison that will infect with exhilaration once the track emanates from the speakers. A dominant rhythm is executed with precision quality. ‘Scream your Hate’ Yes! It’s that time already, as the final track emerges triumphant with its bold, temperamental rhythms and forged in metal vocal chords.

It isn’t something I am happy about, I am talking about the end of this magnificent specimen of an album, not its rhythms or vocal chords you understand, hell no! I could listen all day forever more to this, as I love the feeling of death metal as it subsequently bludgeons my ears to within an inch of their hearing range!

This album comes into its own and indeed will simply own you as you listen to the raucous but absorbing musical passages, there’s nothing quite like brutal death metal for that feeling of pure hate and Zora has captured the moment perfectly on this album.

Well, Christmas is definitely here with bands all wanting to throw out Christmas releases and one of those bands are Furian, who have gone one better and released the track ‘Walking in the Air’ on the internet, but only when you sign up to their mailing list can you get it for nowt - and the best bit is there is no Aled Jones in sight!

This version begins with a dream-like concoction and then explodes into a strange, slightly dub, rock and everything else the band can throw into the mix. You can still hear what the track is with some very high pitched vocals, but not all the way through you will be pleased to hear.

Furian, are just one of those bands that just get straight into the throng and deliver some very unusual music. In the first place, to take on this Christmas classic has taken a lot of nerve indeed, but it isn’t without its heavy bits incorporated with classical components as well as ambience.

I think if something like this had been released first, I doubt Aled Jones would have attempted to sing it! But the guys have got into the Christmas spirit, (probably too much spirit has been consumed here) but give them their due, it’s different! Especially the heavy guttural vocals which really add depth to this once sweet and sickly track.

Death Disco! I can honestly say hand on heart, is one sub-genre I am pleased to have experienced. It’s not like disco of the 70’s as music back then was a lot tamer, but death disco has the great added benefits of sounding raucous with a strong melodic twist. Of course, the tongue in cheek mode goes into overdrive, but I wouldn’t mind attending one of Death Valley High’s death discos! I bet they are superb live! For sure this band are CVLT as FVK!

There is a sense of dreariness rather than ‘Desire’ that washes over the senses like dirty dish water on the first track, however, ‘Show Me’ does show more willing and has a rhythm that picks up its heels, throwing catchy into the mix so there is hope for the album yet! ‘The Scene’ is a twiddled execution of beautiful melodic ingredients releasing an inspirational presence. ‘This World’ again employs a choppy character that introduces unusual keyboard sounds, adding intrigue to the list. ‘Beautiful Crutch’ is a solemn and profound track when listening to the words. Rhythmic and beguiling – it’s worthy of several repeats, just to experience the picture it paints! Great Track! ‘I Die’ offers emotional keyboard notes and soulful vocal that as expected, relentless and mellow, but drains the senses. ‘Vulnerable’ makes its mark with hypnotic beats that suddenly explode into a comforting embrace while vocally holding a graceful lilt. ‘The Flame’ is rather old fashioned and wouldn’t sound out of place for the early 1900’s. Unusual, impressive, melodic, holding plenty of drama and seduction.

‘Madly’ possesses lush keyboard rhythms that are to die for. Inescapably, rich in strong melody and seasoned with scintillating emotion, definitely another of my favourite tracks as the catchy hues are spicy and moreish, along with the chorus that will have you singing along and turning the volume up to savour every moment! Phenomenal track! ‘The Saddest Dream’ weaves a familiar melancholic tapestry and vocally could be mistaken for Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music. It’s a gripping and edgy track, holding a deliberate prowling endeavour that baits the ears. ‘Outer Space’ is enchanting in its own right, rewarding the audial with an anthemic passage ending this very unusual album.

As it goes - I’m so madly, so badly, I’m so madly into you. I’m so madly, so badly falling hard and fast it’s true!”

It’s ironic, having just 85 words to describe Johnny Deathshadow. Needing to say more than just ‘brilliant’ or even ‘phenomenal’ as even these words don’t do the album justice! It’s a powerful stomp of superb hard melodic keyboards and sometimes a robotic voice with the added benefit of a harsh German accent. Every track just thunders madly through its gigantic paces, capturing raw emotion that only Industrial Gothic Metal can. Germany is the headquarters of Industrial metal and do they know how to execute it!
