Biography:

Kaine are a Heavy Metal band from East Anglia, U.K formed in 2009 by Rage Sadler (guitars/vocals) and Dan Mailer (bass/vocals). The band has previously released an E.P. titled Kaine (2010), Breaking The Surface Live E.P. (2012), Falling Through Freedom - Album (2012), Reverence – Single (2012), Killotine E.P. (Split with Osmium Guillotine 2012) and Rock The Castle – Live (2013).

The band has played over 90 shows and has supported some of the best known acts and names past and present such as NWOBHM legends Praying Mantis and Dennis Stratton (Iron Maiden) as well as current acts such as Absolva, ZP Threat’s I-AM-I (ex-Dragonforce), Thornwill, Striker, Screamer and The Raven Age.

Kaine recently completed a U.K. tour alongside Monument (featuring ex-White Wizard members) which Kaine bassist Dan Mailer also played in Monument as Chris Dale (ex-Bruce Dickinson/TANK) was unable to make the tour due to other commitments.

The album was recorded in just 5 days at Angry Bee Studios in London and produced by Akis K who has recently worked with acts such as Monument, Damn Dice etc. and mastered by Z-Plane.  Two singles have already been released from the album, Iron Lady (April 1st) and Resistance (May 1st) and have already been praised by critics referring to them as true NWOBHM revival and been compared to Golden Era Iron Maiden.

Iron Lady

This is mouth-watering stuff with rhythmically riveting passages and a build up to literally die for. The benchmark has been well and truly set – this track is just a taster for the storm that is about to descend on us. Damned fine single that emerges as being their strongest to date!

The New Wave

This track is really absorbing and fundamental to portraying the ‘Kaine’ stamp of approval, and outlines some amazing sounds that are tempered to perfection. It magnificently engages the soul with some fast and highly accurate riffs that chug fiercely and have extreme emotive force.

Dreams to Nightmares

Faster paced – Kaine don’t like letting the grass grow under their feet which this track proves. It’s a rigorous workout that will keep the listener focused with the most dramatic and embracing rhythms.

Solidarity

Perfectly woven and intricate this track has balance and superb atmosphere. Vocally and expressively different too, showing a certain creative diversity and a welcome surprise. Punchy beats and monumental rhythms really come together here very well.

Resistance

Resistance is the second track and single to be taken from The Waystone following the successful release of the first single ‘Iron Lady’ The tones on this track are overwhelmingly tasty and truly a special but not unexpected. It twists and turns revelling in its heights of constant metal splendour, and definitely single material.

Entropy (Unrelenting Chaos)

Another beautifully crafted track it literally oozes with incredible lures and powerfully intensive groove. The guitars wrap themselves around the aural and blend with a sonic drum beat – a highly intense track all round and the only track on the album not hosting a vocal.

This Soul Exchange

A more ambient and soulful track that meanders with a brooding intent. It’s sultry and shadowy and evolves as another strong and memorable track. A vocally engaging ballad and brilliantly executed by the band.

Wanderer

The flowing melodic tendencies of the track are just engrossing, with a more urgent vocal approach that jabs along with the punchy beats. It constantly reveals more of what Kaine are about, as being diverse and voracious survivors of their craft.

The Waystone

Title track to the album is quite an unusual track to finish on. Slowing the pace down and substituting it for a refined and ambient, enchanting timepiece that clearly puts them way above their rivals. Further on in the track it suddenly ignites and simply explodes with rousing fiery rhythms. Clever touch indeed!

To Sum up:

The enterprise that Kaine have shown over the years is phenomenal. ‘The Waystone’ is clearly the best album I have heard from Kaine to date and it really does outline how far the band have progressed.  This is a very mature sound which will no doubt should earn the band further additions to their fan base.

Kaine have really pushed the boat out with this album, it rips your ears off one minute and then kisses them better the next. Bulging with gripping sounds that although are still very ‘Kainelike’ they are just simply bristling with excitement!

The whole album is addictive and undiluted – in fact this album shows Kaine at their very best! The melodies will leave you open mouthed and it is clear to see that the band have poured so much into these nine tracks and they come out as not only engaging but also possess that metal ruthlessness that grips as soon as you lend an ear to it.

Don’t ask me to pick a favourite as that would be virtually an impossible task as each track holds something different for the listener to engage in and enjoy although the track ‘The Waystone’ has had more than six replays so far!

As frustrated as the band have been in the past, sheer determination has certainly driven them with extreme passion, that instead of throwing in the towel has made them fight even harder for what they believe in!

Although the band have been compared to the likes of Iron Maiden, this album I find is rather more refined and much more flexible. Kaine have produced some compelling tracks, so much so that I have found myself reaching for replay, over and over again.

It is very fair to say that this is one fine album that more than deserves recognition. I am transfixed! It’s impressing from start to finish, there’s nothing I can find fault with, simple as that! From captivating guitars, rabid beats, strong bass hooks and diverse vocals – Kaine have done themselves proud with this! But knowing Kaine the next album will more than likely to overshadow this one, because that is what Kaine does best, always going that one step further! Brilliant!!

Brief Biography: 

Formed in 2009 and from the Liverpool UK area Gods of War have literally upped their game since then and become a strong contender within the Liverpool scene.

The change in line up has resulted in a more extreme direction and approach from the band and finally “Tales from the Dark Lands” has been released.

Gods of War from LtoR: James, Danny, Matt and Kris

Fornost is fast and powerful and goes on a mad rampage through the speakers, and passionate about its direction with striking harmonies that give it a medieval feel, which is high on the bands agenda as you will hear when you listen to this track.

Gods of Old is a rhythmic track of metal grooves that plunders fiercely into the aural. Danny’s vocals are raw and scathing, and whilst it smolders with passion the music surrounding it develops into a bolder feel.

Operation Engage is sultry and potent and a blaze of fire and passion as it literally ignites into a fury of mesmerizing rhythms and there is a dramatic climax incorporating fast thrash elements and compelling drum beats.

Angmar is a more subdued track at the start, however it sticks a middle finger up as it continues its rabid onslaught. It is a formidable track that once again holds solid harmonies and brutal riffing as well as high savage energy.

To sum up:

Since the bands arrival on the scene in 2009 you can literally hear the progression from ‘We March for Metal’ and ‘Litanies of War’ 2011. There really is no comparison as the new four track E.P has quite literally jumped leaps and bounds proving the band are now even stronger than ever before.

The cover also really defines what the band have grown into and that is one strong and compelling act that needs to be witnessed live for the full on effect.

When Gods of War get onto a stage the aggression is soon recognized and Danny’s energy jumps from 0 – 100mph in a matter of seconds. There is no shortage of people wanting to get involved as the surge of their music compels an audience to share in the bands undeniable talent.

It seems that nothing can stand in the way of Gods of War who were already strong contenders at the start of their musical career, but this is a whole new ball game.
