Going Down

Sounds like raindrops with thunder in the background and an evil vocal growling “I’m going down” A highly infectious listen that comes alive and lures you with a certain amount of intrigue. The track bursts into life with a thrill of energetic crisp rhythms and intermittent fury of rabid melodies.

Doomladen

Hypnotic rhythms and weighty guitar which in turn reveals a more sinister and menacing side. Excellent vocals evoking a certain raw emotion that exceeds an infectious charm with a powerful harmonic resonance – this is a deliciously inspiring track.

Strontian

Just a short track that is an invigorating exploration of dark malevolent forces with slow melodies and yes it is a filler track.

Let all Mankind Burn

Imaginative and emotive it surges into another thrilling array of mesmerising rhythms with the vocals being the violent aggressor.  It emerges triumphant in bombastic riffs and rampant enthusiastic beats.  Bringing a raw power into the mix as a cascade of frenzied and captivating melodies caress with razor sharp teeth.

For Me

Doom laced but with a nice hard edge and a stirring piece of music crafted to perfection. Overpowering and contagious this track twists and intertwines with a destructive presence and prowls seductively stretching the boundaries of what is undoubtedly a creative and impacting track.

Sorrow

Resonating guitar riffs that carry no weight at all as they splutter amid a distorted back drop – both niggling and annoying and such a let-down compared to the other immense and varied tracks.

Suicidal Crisis

Samples of wind traces and in the distance a solitary guitar can just about be heard lifelessly offering some melancholy chords that grow in intensity to a synth that brings to life some incidental noises. It meanders with softer vocal far reaching, holds a certain criteria of melodic rhythms and later harmonies.  The guitar is quite stunning as it challenges and builds to great heights of intense sophistication and shows utter diversity to the extreme. Superb listen with a definite classical feel.

To sum up:

“Going Down” “Doomladen” “Let all Mankind Burn” “For me” and “Suicidal Crisis” are just superb tracks on this album however “Strontian” and “Sorrow” just does not cut the mustard and leaves me quite flat and unresponsive.

Overall though it is a stunning piece of teasing elegance so I can quite easily turn a blind eye to the two not so teasing elegant tracks and concentrate on what brings out the best in my moods and this has to be a plus for Plastic Noose.

I was unsure of Suicidal Crisis at the beginning but after listening again realise its true potential to scintillate after hearing the guitar played with such conviction and it has now become one of my favourite tracks, but I can never listen to anything just once although it annoys some people the fact I can play something over 100 times and still find it thought provoking without getting sick of it but nobody can say I do not study a track without fully submerging myself into it, and I think I owe it to every band and musician to do so.

Plastic Noose have indeed proved to me that this album has more good than bad about it and has now become like an old and welcome friend to my aural senses.

Vengeance

Superb opening track! A sonic boom of harsh enveloping rhythms come ushering forth like a stampede of elephants, compelling and driving with sheer passion. Vocally huge with great harmonies and a vibrant synth edge, hugely intrusive melodies capture and embellish the aural cavities – this is one vicious stunner, and if it don’t get you dancing you can safely say you are dead!

Fire

A busy of insane synth with a quick smack of the drums that quickly turns into a firing squad. Great samples and an array of melodies constant and forceful will erode the listener with an overwhelming intensity that has devouring qualities only Industrial brings in the shape of System:FX the primal contagious build-up of this track just blisters with energy!

Twentyfirst Century

Harsh and dark with a smothering of ambient saturation. Intensely Vehement holds an energy that you simply can’t ignore. Powerfully passionate, and will no doubt have an overwhelming impact on the body as well as the mind. Deliciously destructive this track will seduce you and offers fresh imagination that will leave you inspired and addicted for more. The spark has been well and truly ignited and shines brightly!

Stay in your Homes

More sneaky little samples and a pulsing electronic synth of rhythms that serve to encapsulate that industrial pleasure zone! It will tighten its grip on the jugular the further into the track you go. Disturbing and euphoric in delivery as it just smashes with sheer abandon through your speakers, unique and impressive – you will find that this corrosive track does more than just burn – it literally ignites into a frenzy of industrial onslaught!

To sum up:

My only gripe with this E.P is that it does not last long enough! 4 tracks just whet the appetite and leaves me restless. Nothing for it just have to play it again! System:FX clearly have something special within their grasp. Their music inspires and captivates you as soon as you put the CD in the player and as soon as that task is complete you have then to deal with the contents that are unleashed. System:FX are gaining strength and are virtually unstoppable.

Since reviewing Over:Drive I did not think System:FX could pull another perfect stunner out of the bag and so glad after hearing this that I have been proved well and truly wrong.

Definitely worth a listen or 6 and if your feet don’t move then you need to go to the doctors as there is something seriously wrong with your reflexes.

11/10 As before 10 just is not good enough, just as the volume needs to go up to 11 to get the full magnitude of encapsulating jabbing rhythms and whirling sounds on this E.P elevating your mode to pleasurably tremendous!

Cyber, Industrial, EBM call it what you like is just a really interesting and exciting genre to review, so you can imagine my delight as no less than 9 cd’s dropped through the door putting a right royal grin on my face and here is the first one:

Scenekiller

Clearly a rhythm focused track as all Industrial Cyber tends to be with a smattering of dark samples and a stark vocal although not as heavy as I was presuming, however the industrial touch is there with its familiar pounding rhythms and you can at least do a good few dance moves into the bargain!

Sentinel

Cosmic and atmospheric with haunting keyboards, beautiful rhythms and choppy little beats really give this track feel and flavour, the luscious dark ambient mood is lifted with strong uninhibited hyperactivity which makes it superb for dancing.

Sentinel Code Red Core Remix

Lots of synthetic euphoria with awesome tweaks and samples offering a tremendous beat and harsher vocal content which is always appreciated. Straight forward and punishing – great track to practice some dance moves with foot tapping qualities too!

Sentinel Project Rotten Remix

A superb hard and deep beat ensues with vibrant keyboards and a strong powerful more industrial themed vocal. This will have you up and dancing around the room in no time - offering a combination of raw power infused electronica, pulsing and superb it has to be my favourite track so far, for all dance floor addicts this is a floor burner!

Heart of Dust

Moody and ambient with a haunting melody, slow in tempo but intriguingly intense. Its samples are stark and visual with superb industrial ambience that is swathed in sophistication.

Sentinel Paresis Remix

The sound environment is raw and compelling with a barrage of hypnotic beats that sound none too far removed from dub step, and in fact are dub step related, very quirky and sinister with quite a disturbing array of rhythmic prowess showing the dark side of Cortex Defect and will no doubt leave an imprint on the listener.

To sum up:

Quite a quirky promo and actually very rare (with one of only four copies of it on cd in existence) Shows a lot of diversity and complexity from slow tempos right the way up from blistering dance to dub step with more in between. Haunting melodies and surging rhythms with lots of drum and bass however not as harsh as I have previously heard but none the less thought provoking with heaps of dark ambience.

Not unlike Depeche Mode (although the vocals are very contrasting in places) who caused quite a stir back in the 80’s but then went off on a tangent to produce harsher and more off the cuff tracks later on as opposed to their poppy futuristic offerings at the beginning of their career which I have to say I did quite enjoy (and it was good to meet them back before they made it famous at the Bridgehouse in Canning Town – Happy days) but never the less stamping their mark on the scene for others to follow.

“We are essentially a Metal Core band, but when we say Metal Core, we mean real Metal Core like Machine Head & Lamb of God. We used to be a Thrash band, but our playing styles have grown, and musical tastes have changed, so we decided to go down a different road. We like to play around with different modes, giving each song a different groove and different style, making it quite exciting to listen to”

The band have celebrated two years together as a unit on the 14^th March this year but sadly Jack Howe on Bass has parted ways as on all accounts tensions were rising as it does in bands from time to time and with some all the time! And as I type this the band are already auditioning for bassists so hopefully it won’t be long before Solitary Confinement is back in the bosom of the metal community once more and annihilating the crowds.

The awesome Solitary Confinement

The bone of contention with a lot of metal heads is the “Core” in Metal Core – distinguished by its emphasis on breakdowns and screamed vocals. I personally love it but others hate it and I suppose it depends whether or not you want to be broad minded or close minded on the subject and of course depending on what year you were born as to whether you were brought up with it, just like it or detest it.  I however, love the raucous feel of it and the way it is performed on stage although I was not brought up with it (far from it) but learnt to embrace it as I have done with a lot of genres that have suddenly reared up and Solitary Confinement have added progressive to the genre to give it a more complex feel.

Crack the Sky

The indestructible Solitary Confinement seem to just grow stronger with time. First seen in 2011 at Helrazer and never looked back. Always good to witness these young monsters (age ranges from 17-23) live. This track will leave blisters on the aural and bite hard into the jugular. The vocals are just superb with a great display of irresistible metal that will just bombard you with brilliant melodies and takes no prisoners – raw to the bone and the last time I saw these guys they played this track live did not just bring the house down they thoroughly destroyed it!

Parasites

A jangle of guitar builds slowly with a full flavor of eastern promise, until it rips the skull open as the ferocity sets in and feasts hungrily on the ears.  That bass hook sneaks in nicely, moving it further up the molten metal scale and delivers some nice rampant grooves with pummelling rhythms of sheer menace and venom wrapped in a harsh spine tingling vocal onslaught. The riffs come galloping at tremendous speed thrusting more aural delights your way. The track slows with some deftly carved chords that start up but are quickly removed with more harsh and caustic growls and a strong bass hook.

The Plague

This track is just as infectious as the disease itself and blends distinct traits of progressive imagination which possesses emotive and forceful melodies that play eagerly on the ears, hungrily devouring you slowly, inch by inch as the mighty chords come crashing down. Highly potent and stirring on all levels with scathing vocals that don’t just singe it is full on burn!

Feel the burn!

To sum up:

The passion and intensity that Solitary Confinement give out is tenfold.  They are super-fast evolving and infectiously excellent. It is always brilliant hearing them play live and how they perform on stage and it is always with 100% and persistently achieving a high standard at gigs.

Solitary Confinement always bring energy to the table which in turn brings annihilation and devastation when they play.  This E.P is nothing short of perfection and deserves your avid attention and one seamless escapade of dominant and addictive lure.

Juggern0rt unleash this track on the unsuspecting public, and should be ashamed of themselves! Making people enjoy themselves to the raucous mesmerizing sound of this beast, played with aggression and crafted deliciously around clearly passionate growls culminating in sheer savagery – how very dare they! Lyrically immense – “Hooligan, Hooligan you’re a fucking hooligan!” I bet being in the front row at one of their gigs you will end up getting spit in your eye especially after this track!

You definitely need energy to be one!

No Fuckin’ Bullshit

More of the same raw, aggressive and lyrically insane, reaching the heights of dizzying metal splendour. The guitar will forcibly throttle you, the drums batter furiously hard to a mean bass rip that will leave you bruised and whilst you are being aurally screwed by that, you have to contend with the captivating vocal onslaught of James Taw and so you get screwed twice for the pleasure!

Breed of Species unknown to man

Rewarding and satisfying, as that scream cuts through you like a royal blade.  Pumping rhythms and raw beats will skull fuck you senseless – this is just how I like my metal!! I love being bitch slapped by a pounding onslaught of ferocious metal it’s so delicious! This is one to crank up and go crazy to as it reaches the heights of tremendously satisfying! Bring on the addictive teasing guys I’m ready!

Wargasm (Bonus Track)

A tasty bonus track! And if I was a bloke no doubt would be calling it a “Boner” track! Highly “orgasmic” metal, this will send your limbs into spasms as they try and keep up with the crazy rhythms contained within it. Plenty of bite and intensity as it rips through the flesh leaving its mark.

Juggern0rt E.P

To sum up:

Snarling bass hooks, meaty guitar, thundering blast beats and a fist full of vocal this E.P. is corrosive even in small amounts but for me I am hungry for more and have to play it again for the umpteenth time being a true rip roaring metal head who can’t get enough of the ear splitting screams and literally enjoy being consumed with venomous seduction.

No nonsense in your face brutality is what clearly every metal head far and wide wants to hear. We want to be wooed with a vocal onslaught of lyrically degrading sweary vocals, provocative melodies, rip-roaring bass hooks and unadulterated kick beats which is why Juggern0rt, if not already, should be in YOUR collection.

Juggern0rt are true pioneers of metal with their uncompromising rhythms, damming explosive blast beats and provocative vocabulary – these are four tracks that you need to hear, to witness, to experience in all their glory and I urge you to buy this slab of aural (I said aural you fool!) debauchery – you can thank me later!

“Attica’s Ashes is a band hailing from London, UK, who create a unique blend of rock, metal and punk - with a horror twist. The result is an aggressive yet infectious spooky sound, which will get your adrenaline pumping and your fist in the air.

The band’s story begins with guitarist Jonny Nonsense playing guitar at a live karaoke event in Brighton. So impressed was he with singer Brett Zero’s rendition of a classic Misfits song that he tracked him down afterwards, and suggested they start a new band.

Years later, their ambition was fully realized when they teamed up with bass player Joao Curro and drummer Esteban Benedicto in London. The quartet began writing songs in 2012, going on to record their first release ‘Flickers of Dawn’ while preparing an exhilarating live set.

The diverse influences of the band converge to create a style which is familiar, yet impossible to categorize. Muscular riffs are combined with energetic punk beats and heavy grooves, underpinning Brett Zero’s versatile vocals which switch from angelic melody to hard core scream in an instant. I just love the cover to the E.P it is really eye catching (No pun intended!)

Attica’s Ashes

Rather a theatrical sound and very different to what I have listened to in the past, but change is as good as a rest so they say! However, some great rhythms to be had here with clean vocals and crisp guitar.  The breakdown is just superb and nobody could say it is not metal with an unusual twist, even if it is in a more commercial form.

This is the End

This has great teasing melodic rhythms and literally dances on its musical riffs it goes without saying it is a deeply satisfying listen. Vibrant and smooth in delivery, incorporating numerous flavors and each element of the track blending well together.

One last Kiss

Nice driving powerful rhythms although slower in tempo offers quite a brooding mix of grooves with a good strong vocal. Played with balance and extreme control.

Back Cover

Silent Scream

Great little chugger this one, and music that one can seriously just “slip into” with ease and freshly chilling. The guitar is stirring whilst the vocals are poetic and turning a little raw into the track. Dynamic in its own way, turning a melodically laced track into an edgy and striking story.

We strike today

The vocals here seem rather muted whether it is meant to be like this I don’t know but the harmonies are its redeeming feature. Musically it hits the mark with fast beats and delicious rhythms. Foot tapping qualities and a catchy chorus with a dark bass rip that is growing on me more and more.

Divine

Quite impressive with its brazen beats and toned guitars and the vocals coming into their own touching gravelly and screamo. The harmonies work really well and the track has a good chug quality and a simple ending that is simply divine.

To sum up:

Yes it is very commercial in approach but it has its redeeming qualities too! Particularly the harmonies and the fact that vocalist Brett can sing as well as diverse between the screamo says a lot. The tracks are well produced and offer consistent rhythms and catchy chorus’s and will no doubt appeal to quite a wide audience.

I love the horror side of the band’s genre along with the very punk sounding choppy rhythms and all in, this is not a bad E.P for the guys to debut on – so one to check out if you love horror and punk infused metal, and not to be confused with Angela's Ashes that is something entirely different altogether and a lot more downbeat.

“Started as a home project from a collection of riffs by Jay, Subscale's foundation was formed after he was joined by Mario Tomašković as the second guitarist and songwriter in the summer of 2010. Also joined by Hrvoje Knežević as the third and final guitarist and songwriter. Subscale parted ways with Hrvoje Knežević and was joined by Igor Čeranić as the main sampler and Karlo Horvat on vocals. The E.P "Fictional Constructs" was released in September 2012. Currently the band is preparing for upcoming live performances as the debut album "The Last Submission" has been released via Geenger Records in March 2013"

Interception

Igniting the fires this track literally blisters into action.  It has a full blend of sounds that fuse together into a big metal melting pot and what comes out is raw, unadulterated emotion. Vocally big on sound pulverizing the sense into oblivion with fast paced guitars offering superb rhythms and a drum beat that will carve you up along the way.

Fictional Constructs

Eerie sounds burst into a fiery incendiary device and explodes metal all over you with sharp shards of splintered glass, penetrating the flesh and leaves you with abrasive cuts and that is just from the vocals alone! Compelling and exciting with that surprise shock! Those incidental sounds casting an eerie shadow on the proceedings adding spice to this already spicy track.

Antecedent

Takes a bit to start up but when it does just make sure you have not turned the sound up to 11 as the force of it will throw you against a wall and rip the skin from your bones! The bite and passion will devour you unleashing its gnarly array of grooves with a haunting of vicious and spiteful hunger.

Method and Manner

Tempestuous and raw another grisly array of dense madness bursts from the fiery furnace and erodes your hearing devices with ease like a knife slicing through butter. This tracks shows superb strength and prowess.

Pull the Threads Extraction

Sneaky bass lines open this track offering a primal saturation and then further on it unfurls into an array of blast beats and crisp mellow guitar and then on impact again explodes into sheer aggression its anger very apparent like the waking of a forgotten monster. Using a vocal encroachment like acid to the skin the destructive rhythms then melt into a more mellow flavor and offer light where there was dark. A very diverse and pleasurable track to listen to.

Realisation

Soft atmospheric whispers to a distant guitar – intriguing – you wait for the onslaught with baited breath... it’s coming – or is it? Awakening the senses to a high octane level as the guitar seems to stray to a faster approach and then a fury explodes to the sound of harmonies with brutal grooves that play out in succession not too high as to reach the peak but just enough to pinch your curiosity. Clever track indeed.

Outreach

Distorted guitar and space noises bring more curiosity as to what you will hear next.  A scornful evil vocal screams into existence. It offers strength and emotion through the blast beats alone as they thunder from the fast footed drummer into a frenzied array of kick beats and a madness from the fret board. Once a jumbled mix of strings now become a clean ensemble of riffs and gives the listener something to ponder on for a brief time anyway...before returning to vicious mode.

The Verdict

Moody strings come into play here sparse and uncomplicated not fully coming to life but keep you guessing. Intriguingly creepy the incidental noises of ravaging winds blow menacingly sending shivers down your spine and is a filler on the album however a very welcome one giving a freshness of modern imagination.

The Last Submission

Stark and engagingly raw with gruff unpolished vocals that simply burn into the skull and then smashes it with even more raw abandon. Its scorched melodic passages twist and turn in various ways so you never know which direction it is going to take – but you know it is never going to be a restrained one. The progressiveness takes over the guitar and a euphoric embrace replaces it with snarling ferocity from the vocals and a machine gun drum beat fades from the speakers.

Endgame

Eerily spooky, this is a profound track with crisp sparse guitar, sneaky bass and isolated muted drum beats. Then with a slide of fingers on the fret board a menacing array of voices ushers forth with more eerie incidental sounds offering the listener some more continued investigation – like a never ending maze of metallic grooves that take you on an exciting journey but nobody knows where it will lead.

To sum up:

Normally anything progressive takes me a while to succumb to if I do at all, but this album has been created with direction and monumental vocals that distract from the jumbled array of business on the guitar and gives you an experience that constantly delivers an enticing and addictive listen with intriguing balance that just guides you into its foray.

Very cleverly produced and executed album by Subscale and a welcome listen that offers extreme diversity with not every track sounding the same as the last giving accentuated guitar and blast beats with more notable ingredients – what you get here is a superb mix of everything that is finely balanced and this is for me true progressive.  The elements of electronic are just enough to whet the appetite with grooves bigger than the Grand Canyon bringing the formula to a nice finish.
