own words:
“Experience the
explosive force of Endless Dark” – The music they make is a dramatic hybrid of
powerful heavy guitars, retro-synth keyboards with a perfect mix of clean and
scream vocals. The intensive rhythms and
drum fills make the music constantly evolve and excite, but at the same time
never loses its heavy roots. The
melodies are catchy and warm enough with melodic hooks and heavy
breakdowns. “Endless Dark” appear from nowhere with guns blazing to prove that
heavy, aggressive, yet catchy and emotive music can be accessible for everyone”
Six piece band from
Reykjavik in Iceland have hit the ground running with this 5 track E.P. Hard to
imagine that 6 guys in their 20’s can produce something of this calibre although
a bit more mainstream that what I have listened to in the past but I feel they
do have that certain something that will appeal to many.
The cover is
eye catching and unusual using a stark red against a grainy black and grey with
a dingy skyline beyond it and a heart that also forms a fist in the centre
really sums this band up one hundred percent although I think they probably are
a lot harder to crack!
Fading from You
This just
simply blows you into the future. It
captures a superb rhythm and a mix of clean vocals and stupendous gnarly vocals
to a stinging array of riffs and powerful drumming. It literally thunders into
life and immediately sinks its fiery punch to the jaw like an angry boxer with
plenty of clout.
Creature
Superb solid
drumming and a clean vocal that accompanies a gravelly vocal with a plethora of
contagious rhythms. The dream sequence half way through the track is a nice
subtle touch with beautiful keyboard and catchy beats that strengthen the track
greatly.
Cold Hard
December
Magnificent
keyboard opens this track and a scathing array of vocals follow. The clean
vocals are crisp and sung to a full powerful background sound that is well
mixed and produced containing energetic grooves that really pump ferociously –
although it has its lighter moments voluntarily but never loses its intensity.
Awful Place
This is a
beautiful piece of music with amazing keyboard and clean vocals and very well
produced. There is a female voice that accompanies the clean male vocal and it
works tremendously well. The harmonies blend effortlessly into a sea of dreamy
chords, beats and rhythms and very likable indeed.
Shooting Star
Press
A good build up
from the last track into this one. Back to the screamo vocals with choppy synth,
strong riffs, powerful bass, and a blaze of harmonies.
To sum up:
There is no
getting away from Endless Dark who are a
force to be reckoned with and show diversity in approach to producing a good
strong E.P. What they do is exactly what it says on the label, catchy
and emotive music that is accessible for everyone, although it may not appeal to the more aggressive metal head who
prefers to go for just the gruff cookie monster vocal and excluding the clean –
I do prefer a more rough vocal myself, but I have to say that the clean vocal
on “Awful Place” along with the female vocal shows without a doubt that Endless Dark (Not forgetting they are just in their 20’s)
definitely have a promising diversity and should do extremely well with this
E.P.
Already with an
accreditation from Metal Hammer: “Fringe-bearing Volcanoes, banking collapses,
Kerry Katona TV ads... Iceland always seems to come up with the unexpected, and
young Icelandic band Endless Dark are no exception! This six-piece band have
already caught the eye of those in the know from their blistering performance
at last year’s Iceland Airwaves Festival – Their unique combination of HUGE
metallic riffs with actual TUNES guarantees their name will be on everyone’s

So now all we have
to do is sit back and wait and see what Endless
Dark are going to do next... and it should be a pretty smooth ride on all
accounts.
