Biography:
“Among a multiple choice of music styles, Dot Legacy, don’t really know where to stand, so decided to dig them
all while keeping a solid fuzzed-out & neo-stoner base.
These four young French rockers make you move between Stoner, Noise
and even Post-Rock, often using wild and sophisticated subgenres absolved from
meaning whatsoever. Since 2009 they have fought to find a unique mark and sound,
plus developed a stage act worth skipping bowling for!”
On opening this CD I was immediately dazzled by a bright green disc
which was pleasing to the eye and very original. The gatefold sleeve offered the usual info on
the band, but also some incredible photo’s, one of the band in a railway tunnel
and the other of a spooky dwelling with the words “Thanks for popping out this
CD, You are now entering a world of gain!” So let’s see if it is gain and not
pain.
Go Green!
Kennedy
The sound of dwelling guitars turn rapturous and then the psych
stoner rock enters – the heaviness is powerful as the vocals are catchy and
interesting. This track is just all twists and turns so you really don’t know
what you will get, other than chills down your spine.
Think of a Name
Is a track that is awash with jaw dropping riffs and funky drums not
to mention a vocal that will have you nodding a long to if not joining in. The
flurry of strings are “incredible” and this I feel is what the ‘name’ of this
track should be called. It literally bounces with heartfelt energy.
Days of the Weak
The vibes in two words are - riff trickery, with embracing melodic
structures all melting into a feel good factor that draw you into it and of
which there is no escape, but who would want to?
The Passage
Atmospherics are the key here – drone based, heavy and resonating so
much so it is hypnotic and powerful as it runs into the next track.
Pyramid
For no reason what so ever this track has chaotic stamped all over
it with a varying vocal not unfamiliar with rap but it is in keeping with the
melodies contained within its muscular arms. The vocals are just phenomenal
bouncing from one to the other amid a sonic fluency of stalking riffs, drum
battering and incidental high pitched squeaks. Deep and fuzzy!

Gorilla Train Station
Bit of a tongue in cheek title, however the music is far from that,
offering the listener a chance to submerge the conscious in an absolutely
wondrous piece of music that leaves you breathless and allows you to enter a
new kind of wonderland. The stop and start are just great touches as it gives
the impression there is something wrong with the disc however, it makes you sit
up and notice.
Rumbera
A fiery and frenzied approach with fuzzy vocals with an array of
keyboard notes that add fuel to an already feisty track, with superb vocal
harmony once more. These guys have hit the nail well and truly on the head with
this one! Bass, keyboards and guitar blend amazing well to form a powerhouse of
sound and one that is very pleasing to the ears.
The Midnight Weirdo
So accurate you would swear you are in the room with the band as
they bring this track to life. Its hypnotic embrace is highly addictive flowing
elegantly and will have your heart racing as it builds to monumental
proportions. It houses a kind of tribal feel to it adding more interest as it
continues.
3AM
Is a complete surprise as it does not hold any stoner components at
all but embellished with a slow paced harmonised vocal with a simple guitar. Although
not a strong track it certainly is different.
To Sum up:
The title doesn’t tell you anything and really you don’t know what
you are going to get from this album – that is until your finger presses play,
and then all is revealed.
From start to finish this is one incredible album that surpasses all
expectations. The harmonies, the song structures, the crossover content, the
rasping guitars, the solid bass, the keyboards, the vocals, it is all just
incredible, even the word incredible doesn’t come close to what I have just
experienced.
The familiar humming drone noises, and the integral intricate guitar
riffs will leave you spellbound. The term ‘Psych Stoner’ incorporated with
‘Fuzzed out rock n roll’ is just what it says and the band deliver it in
abundance.
It certainly is a ‘chill out’ album but with added extras that blend
amazingly well into the tracks. You
don’t need a copious amount of weed or indeed any drugs to experience this
album in fact, I am sure it would take away from its intensity as this just
needs to be heard in the ‘raw’ so to speak to fully appreciate its
gravitational pull.
It isn’t the usual stoner type of sound – there are some intriguing
components within its muscle bound structure to be just called ‘stoner’
although obviously there are stoner elements – but the vocal flexibility is
just off the scale. So you could say this is invigorating just as it is
relaxing too.
The trance like effects run through-out its core with deep resonating
bass and heavy guitars, and it all comes together giving the listener a superb
slab of Dot Legacy and what a
legacy! If you close your eyes the music just builds around the senses and
swallows you whole.
Dot Legacy are the new Lords of fuzzed-out Rock N Roll and Psych Stoner – hell
yes! No pain no gain – in this instance it is just what the band declare on
their album cover – and I have indeed entered a world of extreme gain and one that
I never want to return from. The pain experienced is when the final track
finishes as its addiction will, no doubt have you reaching for the replay just
to get back into that world of gain – nothing will ever be the same again.
You definitely need to hear this CD for yourselves – Dot Legacy are fucking awesome make no
mistake as they have proved to be the gods to worship! This album is pure genius.
