Biography:
Dead Asylum formed in Vancouver, BC at the end of 2011, featuring
vocalist/guitarist Mike Lister, vocalist/guitarist Tyler Forde, Bassist Tyler (Shit)
Meierhofer and drummer Samantha Landa. Dead Asylum’s style spans the spectrum
of metal-combining elements of thrash and death with melodic and grooving
overtones and echo elements of band influences such as Kreator, Amon Amarth and
Exodus.
From the first metal gorged riff this album intrigues and demands attention!
It is surprising to learn that the band employ a female drummer
whose abilities cast no doubt that she knows her stuff and makes everything look so
damn easy! And therefore a real asset and credit to Dead Asylum.
I do not have the first track of the bands prestigious album so we
will start with the second track “Ashes
of the Saviours” what an amazing track this is. The vocals are low epic
growls that have their own force field! The rhythms bounce uncontrollably in a
vibrant seethe of creativity.
“Hate
Revolution” plumbs for a magnetic twang of deep resonance with tribalistic
beats and finger cutting riffs that do the track plenty of justice. The musical
journey is laced with an intrepid coaxing of sonic bass hooks and gravelled
undertones that work superbly well together.
Beat hungry Hate Revolution
“Payable in Blood” opens with a ravenous riff blending into a
melodic teasing that contrasts with deep hungry guttural secretions that simply
attack on listening. Lister’s vocal range can in fact reaches the murky depths as
well as skims the skyline. “Choke” holds
a prime evil feel that surrounds the senses in a bid to exact revenge on its
listening victims and in scathing fashion simply annihilates them. “Machines” is a track that offers some
lyrical squalls and intense vehement growls that are backed up in epic proportions
by a bludgeoning drum beat, enhanced further by large gaping riffs that
leave scorch marks imprinted on your mind. “Everything
Dead” flows like an active volcano spewing out its molten rock and
smothering all it touches. Aggressive and ravenous it finds its way into the
aural cavities and simply mocks them. “Flames of Brutality” possesses an epic
start with riffs that paint a glorious backdrop of remarkable and powerful delivery.
Summary:
“Whatever I say about
this album would never do it real justice. Raw emotion just explodes
through-out each track and engages on all levels possible! Again the vocal
scathing is savage and delivers a blow that is an extremely necessary experience
to savour!”
Like a lot of bands who play host to having a female musician in
their midst Dead Asylum play their
trump card without being flash or over-zealous, and being brutal and savage
comes as second nature to them all.
I should well imagine that
when Dead Asylum gets on stage I
think it is very safe to say that there would be a fair lot of ‘general carnage’
in the shape of flailing bodies and heaps of hair!
The band comes across musically as impressive, dynamic and extremely
aggressive, add in intrusive and absorbing making it a pretty awesome listen
despite the tracks sounding similar, their style of music is already distinct
and with that in mind it is a recipe everyone will want in abundance. Just a
shame about the cover not being as dramatic as the tracks contained inside it!
Otherwise – perfect!!
