As the Zanzi steadily started
to filled up the atmosphere turned wild. It’s always the same at the Zanzi, the
place itself is a vibrant dwelling, not because of the décor but by the bands
and people attending, and tonight was no different.
Despite the bad
weather nothing put anyone off and a great time was had by all, including the
bands, who on all accounts lapped up feedback from the onlookers and gave it
their all.
Debut band Vulgar, although not a vocally strong
band did manage to produce some good tracks ‘Hellraiser’ particularly stood out
for me. The guitar work was excellent.
The band were up
against going on first which is always difficult and also their first appearance
so doubly difficult but got through their set well, even covering a Metallica
cover of ‘Enter Sandman’ not that I am a big Metallica fan but it is a track I
know at least!
So not a bad start for
Vulgar but they definitely need to
work on their vocals to make the sound stronger and to forge a stronger
alliance with the crowd.

Never seen Gorehead live
before, although the name has been familiar for some time now, after
frequenting the Basement in Harman Street, the home of brutality and now sadly
no more!
I had an idea it was going to get messy and I wasn’t wrong! The thing
I particularly liked about Gorehead
was that the tracks weren’t just three second wonders like with a lot of Grind
acts. Gorehead got down and dirty with each of their tracks and everyone
wallowed in the extremity.
There aren’t many grind acts around Liverpool these days, and even Gorehead are from Manchester, but
seeing one is always worth getting out to see and support – if you like your
music played to the extreme! Luciano or ‘Luch’ as he is more familiarly known
growled through the tracks with scathing contempt, and the band coming together
flawlessly to perform some really fierce songs were enjoyable to witness.
Pits formed, hair flew, and bodies surged together in a spectacular
melee of feistiness - all adding to the brutality of the music laid bare for
all to experience.

INHABIT are a 6 piece metal band based in Liverpool.

Well it’s been a long time coming, since the demise of That Æon
Familiar back in 2011.
But now Chopz has got together Inhabit
and more than tipped the scales, notching up some very unusual tracks
involving melodic samples and extreme heaviness, wrapped up with some extremely
powerful vocals.
Although That Æon Familiar were also along the same lines as extreme,
Inhabit are just that extra step up
the ladder and well in keeping with the 21st Century.
The band packed their thirty minute slot with power and aggression
that was soaked with deftly carved melodies that nobody in the right mind could
not fail to appreciate.
Chopz threw himself into the crowd and fed off the highly intense
atmosphere to bemused onlookers and it was clear from the audience’s reaction
that everyone enjoyed witnessing such an energetic act of rebellion.
‘Emotionless’ was the first track I heard a few months back from Inhabit and it more than impressed,
getting played constantly and now after hearing it played live is still getting
played constantly, although now with images of the band as they engulfed the
crowd with their new and unique sounds.
It was clear to see that Chopz as well as the band love being on
stage and used it to its full capacity, although having six members in the band
it was hard not to do, but musically there was no stone unturned.
Joe also played guitar in between throwing out some of the most
amazing samples which he was noted as saying:
“It was extremely hard to do!”
But it all came together superbly and clearly enjoyed by everyone at
the Zanzi last night.
So here’s to more Inhabit! –
well done on producing some of the most unique sounds to a Liverpool crowd!

Exiled never cease to amaze me, how they come up with some of the most
awesome thrash sounds possible! The feedback last night was ‘Execution Order’
and ‘Nuclear Holocaust’ just blew everyone away!
Infact, the whole set was really impressive and it is always good to
witness these guys live for extreme thrashiness because they give in abundance.
‘Lobotomised’ and ‘Exiled’ two of the bands newest tracks were
expertly produced and considering the ages of the band members was quite
remarkable.
Moving up from ‘just an opening act’ Exiled are really pushing some boundaries and I am sure it won’t be
long before these guys are headlining – they certainly have it in them to woo a
crowd and get people moving!
Exiled are just getting heavier and already reaching top of their game,
considering they have only been around for a year, are making solid stance of progression
are now really getting their talent recognised!

Novacrow ended the night of Rampage pt 4 on a high note. Kitty the band’s Guitarist/Vocalist – easily recognisable
with her flaming red hair, remarkable vocal and her charismatic dimples had the
crowd eating out of her hand.
Joined by two of their members John and Frederico wearing banana
costumes it made for a memorable set.
Kitty got the crowd joining in the last track – a cover of Type O
Negative’s – ‘I know you’re fucking someone else’ with shouts of ‘Slut, Whore,
Cunt!’ which the crowd found very easy to shout back! With hands raised into
fists, everyone lapped up the frenzy and joined in, as she smiled back at them.
Rocker’s always have this way of
celebrating romantic days with gestures of sarcasm!
And in getting into the swing of Valentine’s Day picked a member of
the audience, which was none other than the brilliant Sergio from Inhabit, to receive an official
Valentine’s Day card, designed and signed by Novacrow.
Novacrow certainly put a lot of thought into their set and were well worthy
of the headlining slot at last night’s Rampage.
It was a great end to the night, put together by our very own Danny
Hell from Gods of War. A very diverse mix of bands that worked extremely well
together.
