Brings a new meaning to the word ‘Undergound’ as the death, terror and destruction is not far from the strange mind of Martin Daniels as he and his murderous accomplices go on a killing spree, and released on Friday 13th, is that an omen??

The snippets from the film play out like an old 70’s movie, be it in the 21^st century. At times very tongue in cheek, but it still manages to convince you that their murderous exploits are to be taken seriously.

With chloroform, injections, knives, guns and interrogations in the offing as well as some strange hazy footage and strange objects this film oozes brutality by a bunch of evil women – and some old enough to know better!

Bizarre

Vicious

The name Vera Bremerton who is now notorious for her vicious voice in some of the most evil tracks from ‘Callousness and Defiance’ also makes an appearance on the video – I believe she is the most evil of them all and if confronted by her – you pretty much know your days are numbered.

The masks that were worn through-out the interrogation scenes were bizarre. The sinister ambiance that surrounds the ongoing terror make the watcher aware that torture and imminent death are about to unfold.

Sinister

The make-up courtesy of Katerina Samoilis is done in such a way that it outlines the twisted features of this sadistic female crime cult, making them appear harsher and more brutal in each shot – no pun intended! (It is also worth noting that Katerina also created the cover art for the CD Melrose Avenue and done a superb job on it.)

It was quite difficult to follow in places although it kept me gripped with anticipation through-out with the music adding to its severity.

One by one each victim is ‘taken out’ in the cruelest of ways from strangulation to shooting and finally by poisoning – but this isn’t the norm – oh no, the twist here is quite unusual and alarming!

I did have to look away from the screen on several occasions and winced as the murderous plot took on its surreal fantasy, but I could never do blood and gore scenes just the thought of them makes my stomach turn over, but yet like with most people their human curiosity takes over.

 Evil

I still find it hard to believe women take the upper hand and do it by ‘dressing to impress’ wearing tight black pencil skirts, crisp white blouses and black high heels with the obligatory stockings as a form of seduction to possess the weaker sex.

The guys seem to take on a lesser role and don’t really serve any purpose at all. But within Martin’s mind it is the women that have the edge of persecution and persuasiveness.

 Brutal and sadistic!

The killing scenes are carried out quite ‘tastefully’ in the fact the gore isn’t too ‘in your face’ and yes there is fake blood, (I think it’s fake!) but as with the last scene it just reminded me of ‘The Wicker Man’ a bit surreal with bizarre images of women looking more like they are possessed by demon worship and voodoo than a real sadistic scene of murder, however the fact remains it is still very disturbing to watch.

The twist at the end was quite clever and in fact leaves the film open for the next gruesome encounter as one of the female accomplices announces “Just one thing, who is Wardy?”...  That we might never find out!

Genre: A fiendish mix of pitch black anti-dance beats, upturned classical, futurist bleak folk, vintage electronics, huge cinematic soundscapes from hell and words of utmost power and dread...

Melrose Avenue has now been unleashed on the general public! No doubt a lot goes on behind the closed doors in that place!

With the above discography one cannot help but be impressed. Martin is certainly an all-rounder, doing vocals, drums, synths, writing and now film making and acting, to add to his resume.

He has worked extremely hard to bring to light all the darkness in his cold twisted mind and come out victorious.

Daemonic Transcendent Rebels

This is a lot more melodic than previous outings for Martin, although the droning and harsh noise still underlines it, with Toyin doing an amazing job lending her powerful vocal to the proceedings and the eerie synth serves to be hypnotic and mesmerising.

Bill Hopkins and the Grandmasters Cross

‘Encyclopedic knowledge of the Universe’ says the voice and is a powerful reminder of something that appears more serious than death. Its monotonous flanks of rhythm are slow and precise, holding no emotion and the drumming harsh and cold, however a sweeping synth then takes over and adds depth as well as some warmth to the track.

Junes Walk to Endtime

Is one really disturbing track as the piano plays hauntingly in the background to some rather unwelcome electronic sounds that sound like an angry bee in a microwave? It becomes a blend of mish mash as the track nears its end and the heartbeat adds urgency – is this the endtime?

Solitary Turned Satyr

Even more demonic sounding is this track that electronic sounds reverberate a hellish tone of unpleasantness – with a sparse overlay of caustic disturbance with Jay’s vocals sounding edgy and unforgiving.

Inner Light Lycanthropy

This track screams a mesmerising haze of urgency buried deep within its monotonous clicking and awkward distortion. Matthew’s voice is lent to this track and is smooth but still rather eerie. A rather thought provoking track.

Sacrifice the Informer

This is one of the track taken from the DVD where the voodoo shenanigans unfolds and it was just as scary then as it is now. The drumming and intermittent tinkle of a bell makes it all the more urgent and worrying, especially for the informer.

Black Ball Baphomet

‘Beware the Ether has ears’ This is definitely more upbeat although the lyrics are just as nasty as the darker more disturbing musical endeavours. The female moan makes it haunting, the echoing taunting, but the tempo stops it from becoming downtrodden and is a really surprising offing from the man himself – Martin Daniels and one of my favourite tracks from the album.

Scorpion Radius

The deep drum beat and steely sizzle of electronics is a reminder that devilry is around the corner once more. The scorpion’s deadly sting is spoken about in these poignant words “Hallowed be thy sting, the pin points of poison, circle your comrades, let not others in, Hallowed be thy sting!”

This track I am sure is some form of brainwashing as the high pitched shrillness shrouds the aural as it bites and pierces vehemently, lucky for me it only lasts a short time, but by then who knows what the track has transmitted, and what evil it has unleashed?

Outsider Orbit

Stretches the mind to its outer limits and is a rather encompassing track with a backwash of uniformed spine tingling essences. It is dark and moody and from deep within its black persuasion comes an anticipation that is foreboding and mysterious.

To Sum up:

This album has definitely been a surprise – it has been so diverse although still dangerously disturbing but Martin has added some great melodies and rhythmic excitement this time.  Enthralling mesmeric and timeless with new ideas bringing a creative dexterity. I think martin is amazing but twisted all the same!

His musical creations ooze a decaying bleakness but none the less serves to haunt, tease and encapsulate all the more, with innovative structures and evocative seductiveness Martin is a man on a mission – I don’t think there is anything he couldn’t produce without adding that raucous twist of the demonic and after all his previous releases still manages to hit the nail on the head and produce yet more.

That is the skillful imagination he possesses and what is in his head just has to come out – and come out it will, and when it does be prepared for an equally thrilling ride through the turmoil and obligatory bruising that is The Wardycult.

Deathstars are a Swedish Gothic metal band from Strömstad. Formed in 2000, the group are noted for their dark horror-themed lyrics, pessimistic and misanthropic social commentary, distinctive trademark face paint, dark stage uniforms and physical appearances that correspond to Gothic fashion.

»The Perfect Cult« has been captured in several studios: drums, guitars and bass were recorded in Bohus Sound Recording, Kungälv Sweden, vocals in Gig Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and keyboards, orchestration and editing was done in Black Syndicate, Stockholm. While the mix as usual was handled by legendary Stefan Glaumann (RAMMSTEIN, WITHIN TEMPTATION), guitarist/keyboardist Nightmare took care of the production from bottom to top. For the drum, guitar and bass production, Nightmare worked together with Roberto Laghi (ENTOMBED, IN FLAMES) at Bohus Sound Recording. The Mastering was done by Svante Forsbäck (VOLBEAT, RAMMSTEIN) at Chartmakers, Helsinki, Finland.”

As far as the lyrics are concerned “all the tracks are about our lives. Each song is a reflection on a situation or a topic that deals with our experiences, usually from a jet black perspective.” with visions inspired by amoral excessive lives, human fears and decay, the songs will be nothing less than a dark playground set between straight forward tracks, atmospheric anthems and the unwashed loins of lawless rock.

Explode

Capturing the heaviness but incorporating plenty of melody, packed with subtlety and a prominent keyboard, makes this a good opening track that is vocally harsh, not in the sense of scathing, but as in brooding.

Fire Galore

This track is edgy and brisk with a good chugging attached to it. The choppy synth notes add variety to the overall sound and make it an addictive listen.

All the Devil's Toys

Quite an intriguing track that simply draws you into it, with its woven riffs and enticing melodic rhythms. The harmonies really pad it out fully using clever interesting lyrics.

Ghost Reviver

This does indeed sound ghostly and sinister. Overall the sound is full capacity and the higher pitched keys serve to add even more interest.

The Perfect Cult

Sinister eeriness in abundance, harsh lyrical content that just simply brims with rich rhythms and colourful textures.

Asphalt Wings

An undeniably evil flavour to this track that broods with a certain ambiance and positively interesting time signatures.

Bodies

Very different from the previous tracks as this incorporates darker melodies making it exciting as well as thrilling – not to be confused with Bodies – from Drowning Pool. But a really heavy formulaic track with an amazing landscape of evil that explodes into a mass of sultry energy.

Temple of the Insects

Is a bubbling fast paced track that grabs the attention immediately and can be classed as mesmerising with the vocal harmonies working really well together and lavished with soaring melodies?

Track, Crush & Prevail

A brush with heavy, incorporating a dark resounding rhythm and a crisp keyboard which in itself is truly superb as it swirls and pumps out a full sonic sound that more than grabs the attention.

Noise Cuts

This track sounds like it is going to explode at the beginning but it doesn’t instead it has smoothed out its path in a solidified format that is again dominated by a full synth sound.

To Sum up:

Deathstars certainly are a seductive band and have full control of the emotional spectrum. Again, like most bands trouble is never far from their door and the band have hit on this and used it in a positive way, producing ten superb tracks.

Their music is somewhat cold but the overall sound is massively warm. There is an air of sophistication with Deathstars although they can also be described as weird, they too are charismatic, and have definitely carved a niche for themselves, coming out triumphant with this ten track formidable album.

Biography:

“Formed in 2012 'From Her Eyes' are it has been said to follow in the footsteps of fellow home-towners 'Funeral for a Friend' and 'Bullet for My Valentine'. Consisting of old school friends Tom Owen, James Kearle, Jesse Simmonds and Gary Holley.

The guys have only recently said goodbye to their teen years, however this metal core team certainly have a formidable sound that certainly defies their age. By drawing from their influences, Architects, While She Sleeps, Devil Sold His Soul and post-rock heroes, Touche Amore, From Her Eyes have refined a sound that is full on, and devouring.

From Her Eyes have been actively hitting the road since the end of 2012, and during this time they have notched up a considerable amount of energetic live shows, supporting With One Last Breath, Red Seas Fire, Continents, When We Were Wolves, Set to Break and Reaper in Sicily. After literally smashing out their live set, the post-hard core crew turned their attention to their first recording, and now in 2014, the four man band have taken to Bandit Studios with Jonny Renshaw (Devil Sold His Soul) to record their new forthcoming EP 'Demons'; the end result is nothing short of astonishing.

It is always good to get your lug holes around something new and From Her Eyes are relatively new in the sense of launching themselves into the metal scene and what better way to make an almighty racket than release their 6 track debut E.P?

Decay

Is a real stunning piece of music, and it to me doesn’t portray young musicians but guys who have been playing for a number of years as it definitely has a mature feel to it and has a rich tapestry of sumptuous rhythms attached to it. So a good start...

Comatose

Another stunning track but this shows off the bottomless lungs of Tom Owen. The guitar sounds crisp and edgy. I can see why these guys are kicking up a storm, it is really superb stuff! The harmonies between the members are perfect pitch and will leave your senses tingling.

Porcelain

This is a very poignant track that hosts some beautifully sculptured rhythms at the very beginning of the track which once fired up, is one breeding ground for utter destruction, the riffing is dynamic, raw and simply cuts to the bone.

Disillusionist

The crisp fiery riffs produce some of the finest heart stopping rhythms on this track. It smacks of a twisting rampant groove with heavy bass hooks that are commanding and will indeed demand your attention. This is one unholy intense track and it’s not over yet!

Elysium

The shrill strings mould themselves around a hazy but intense malevolent vocal. The music softens and then fades out but will leave you wanting more.

Demons (feat. Lucas Woodland)

The title track to the E.P is highly intense and strong, with the appearance of the harmonies once again. The bands snappy ability to devour is apparent here and is proof they are ready to take on world domination.

To Sum up:

If this E.P doesn’t gain the band a bucket load of new fans I don’t know what will? They have put so much effort into these six tracks and what has been unleashed on the general public is nothing short of excellence.

One could and will get high on just the sheer intensity and volume that exudes from every track – and no doubt it will have metallers everywhere banging their heads in an attempt to melt into the maelstrom of madness contained within its fierce and uncompromising heavy structures.

For me Metal Core is one way to get the pulse racing and the heart beating faster as the sheer velocity is unleashed. Vocally fluent, the force field will bend at the ferociousness that simply forces its way from the speakers.

This should carry a warning – NOT FOR THE FEINT OF HEART!!
