Forlorn Chambers seem to have sprung up from nowhere as their Facebook page suggests. There is no clue to who or how many people are in the band, but I love a good mystery and hoping despite that, that what is contained here within these tracks are good, wholesome and full of death!

The band’s cover is also full of intrigue and mystery and is a mass of bland greyness that looks eerily through smoke into a church or cathedral and well in keeping with the band’s music.

And off to an amazing start for a debut E.P. this is just inspiring. It suggests black but when the vocals begin it sounds very death with nice guttural swipes, melodic and heavy guitar with a superb throbbing drum beat. Profoundly deep and rhythmic and a constant source of interest can be had by the listener here with heaps of originality – just listen out for the deep resonating sound that penetrates the gut as you raise the volume it really hits hard. The eeriness of this track is outstanding.

Totally different to the previous track it holds a deep penetrating sound that is dark, rhythmic and powerful. With a swathe of blast beats and cookie monster vocals – always a favourite of mine it pummels with sheer intensity and flows like liquid gold. Varying in tempo’s there is a lot to listen to within these tracks and will keep you immersed in a dark beauty from this virtually unknown band.

Again a very deep but varied track that eats into your brain and produces some superb blast beats and stark, crisp guitar.  On hearing the vocal secretions it has sent an icy cold chill down my spine and it keeps coming. Incredibly haunting and melodic with heaps of impact and no doubt this will be getting played a few more times yet to fully appreciate and savour the tracks again in all their dark glory.

To Sum up:
A very intense listen of three sophisticated tracks that have a wind chill factor of well below zero on the scale. You can experience the bands tracks in their entirety on their Sound-cloud page but better still I would go out and buy these tracks for their originality and dynamic rhythms that stand out from the crowd.

A really superb listen – If I lived in Finland I would certainly be checking the scene out to see if they were playing live anywhere and go and support them - that is for sure and if I don’t find out who the members are then what the heck, their music is superb anyways and maybe having that air of mystery about them is just what makes their music even more compelling in the long run, but I am still intrigued. A superb effort for a debut that’s for sure.

Check them out, click on their page, like the page and listen to their music – you will NOT regret it! Let’s get the fan-base up from a miserable 54 to 5,400 because this band deserves some – no in fact a lot of credit!!!

Genre: Death/Doom Metal

In the bands own words:
“INTO DARKNESS was born in September 2011 from the ashes of a dying Universe, by D.Warrior (vox/guitar) and Nor (Guitar/Bass), joining a dimension of obscure noises and sinister revelations. Some moons later (November 2011), they recruited AnguiciouS from MEFITIC, to curse the human race with the slow, doomy beating of cosmic breath.

1st prophecy by Into Darkness has been revealed, with a dark "s/t" demo in the ancient Death Metal way, recorded in summer 2012 and released on MC/LP/CD.

In autumn 2012 Jex joins the ranks on bass, switching to guitar in November when Nor and AnguiciouS left the band. At the end of time, the Sickened Dweller joined the Horde of Darkness on bass, but the ultimate impact happened for a conflagration of supernova incited by Dave's drums. And then, it was only death”

Believe it or not there are two females in the band and two males but a little confused as to who is under what name but that is beside the point – together have created a superb 4 track demo here. Their demo cover is also expertly designed by Chris Moyan and depicts a hooded figure riding a horned goat come dragon and so apt for this kind of genre.

The title track is doomy, gloomy and heavy and with 8 minutes 54 seconds there’s plenty of time to sink into this glorious array of ambiance. Female vocals are superb low growling with heavy distorted guitars and powerful beats.  Even being of the slower variety it still manages to kick you between the eyes and has the listener mesmerised by an overall heavy as fuck sound that suddenly fires up and turns into a fast dizzying array of amazing sound.  The drums come into their own and the blast beats just pummel into oblivion – Towards the end the guitar boasts a strong and striking attack of riffs - this is a track I will be disappointed to hear ending as it has all sorts contained within it providing a highly entertaining listen.

The second onslaught is equally as mesmerising and heavy. Vocally spell-binding and awe inspiring as the melodic flow is tight and flows superbly - it never lets up for a second. Powerful and again striking in production and if their music was a nuclear blast nothing would be left standing. At three minutes 16 into the track the build-up just reaches crushing proportions and will no doubt make your blood boil fiercely under the skin - this is really intense stuff.

A nice slow pace this track kicks off in a melodic manner but still as heavy as a bag of spanners! Definitely a doomy feel to it however the melodies it possesses never truly lets it get below total doom level so there is not that sinking feeling as experienced with all out doom metal – this has bite and rhythm and will keep you gripped until the end.  It is hypnotic and repetitive but you still don’t want it to end.

Absolutely outstanding – I think they kept the heaviest track till the end. The vocals are definitely doom laden and give off that eerie vibe of desolation but again the melody surrounding such a vocal lifts it to the point of no return. It has its fast moments too, although short lived but like the previous track there is no sinking point and it just goes on to deliver some skull splitting riffs and beats that will put you in hospital if you tried to bang your head to it.

To sum up:
An absolutely amazing 4 track demo from start to finish there is sophistication, superb riffs, damming beats and brilliant vocals. I can’t find anything negative to say about this band – because they are all just superb musicians. The quality of their tracks are outstanding and an exciting listen as soon as you press play. They are one of those bands that screams professionalism at every turn.

It is very clever the way the tracks are written possessing a doom feel but the death side of their music keeps it from sinking into an oblivion of no return. Vocally amazing the band have something dynamic going on here. So I urge you to check the band out – I think they are definitely on the Dark Side of the Moon and would give Nibiru a run for its money! If the world were to end tomorrow I would be happy going out with Into Darkness ringing in my ears.

Discography:
2008 - Albert EP - DIY
2009 - deCOMPosed - Shepherd Of Rot Recs
2012 - Unforgivable Holidays - Grind Promotion Records

Very little is known about this band and only 871 likes on Facebook!   :O but if their titles and genre are anything to go by plus the name Ape Unit then I can’t wait to review this.

The cover is of a rather plump young kid enjoying the sun is that so unforgivable?

My Geography not being so hot I wondered where the hell was Cuneo? and then realised it is in Italy – I was surprised as the Italians are usually known for being romantic or so one would think, but these guys are the exception to that rule for sure! Or maybe not depending on what you class as romantic these days.

“No hey Bananas” starts with the sound of a little kid singing – get ready for the splat! Oh yes and with an almighty explosive array of gruesome grind it comes, I was not wrong! But like all true grind shit it never lasts long enough!

The second track has more groove than a 70’s lump of vinyl and it continues with a very angular track “The difference between you and Bahamas” for me that would be the place is hot, I however am not!

Grind galore! Time to yank the volume up another notch and feast on the goodies, so far it has not disappointed and Pig Motocross has some awesome fiery guitar and the sound of a bike starting up – I can just imagine a piggy on a bike haring around a muddy field and like a pig in shit the grinders produce another great track!

The gory grind continues with some epic titles with frenzied splattering’s that just whet the appetite before moving on to the next track, but this is true grind and it does not get better than this.

Nice grunts and pig squeals on La Chanson pour Le Petit Prince – don’t ask me to translate too busy getting into its 35 second entourage!

The 'Real' Ape Unit!

Triggering Santa – I never knew he was Mexican lol – but a lot of clowning around begins until the brutal stuff kicks in – got to be one of my favorite tracks on the album – enough to scare the kids senseless, and at 1 minute and 35 seconds it manages to weedle its way into the brain – Great track! Yeehaw!

A 44 second smash of grinding growls and awesome grooves this track “The bad and the breakfast” is violent without a doubt, but offers a great melodic groove and if head-banging, despite its short introduction, will still give you whiplash trying to keep up with the killer riffs.

Yuri and the Cube is a little more menacing and sinister with low toned guitar and slow plodding beats but still shows a killer side.

The title track suggests the end is near but Tijuana is nearer whatever that is but, the bass hooks at the start of this grinding grenade are without a doubt just superb!

The grisly barrage of riffs and grinding beats continue with a melodic array from “Bastards of Villanova” It is fast and uncompromising but frustrating when it only lasts a few seconds just as you start to get into the grind – you guessed it – it finishes.

Slower start on “Intentions in all pieces” with a lot of ambiance that sends chills down the spine and then a magnificent guitar starts up with a nice chug effect which in turn starts the head moving frantically as it continues to smash your skull in and pulverise your senses.

From “Ska to God” is a mix of slow and sinister and fast and frenzied favouring the slow and sinister with low tuned distorted guitar but does not really go anywhere and my least favourite track on the album – a bit disappointing to finish on this track but the band I suppose have their reasons.

To Sum up:
This album overall is delightfully brutal with a smattering of humor as all grinders seems to possess.  It houses some great riffs, bass hooks and blast beats with that all important ingredient only known to brutal slamming metal heads and that are: the pig squeals and grunting noises that add more clout to the already pulverising tracks contained within such an album.

My favorite is still “Triggering Santa” as it has that element of fun and still brutal at the same time giving the listener more to enjoy.

It’s whacky and most definitely my kind of album – you have to hear it to fully engage in its quality of unrivalled brutal goings-on! If you love grind/power violence then get on it! Highly recommended!!

Drift of Genes – Debaltsevo - Ukraine

Written for www.Brutalism.com

Genre: Brutal Death Metal

With immediate excitement, I clicked on the latest download from Brutalism to check what had arrived in my inbox and on closer inspection I realized that this little bundle of putridity was created by a lone guy that goes under the name of Spasm, who is not only the string and the bass section but also the vocal chords of Drift of Genes, and hails from the Ukraine. The band only started off with two members back in 2008 (Kim -Drums) but now is a one man outfit.

The savage artwork for one such masterpiece is nothing less than you would expect and harbors a savagery within its title alone. It screams out “play me” with its compelling, yet gruesome picture of someone looking absolutely scared shit less amid a blue wash of transparent color.

Death Metal is a particularly favorite genre of mine for the sheer brutality it portrays and love this music with the feeling of coursing blood as it flows effortless through the veins and ravages your whole body, like a deadly infection - so I am hoping that this 13 track is going to do what I hope it should.

Stimulation
Not what I was expecting.... as a beautiful ensemble of strings emanate from the speakers... waiting with baited breath for the barrage of music to hit with some ferocity... nope... but it is highly melodic with a shimmering of cymbals. Still hoping it stimulates me for the next track...

Raped by a Zombie
Now you are talking! This is it - fast furious abrasive onslaught of guttural secreted vocals amid a superb grinding of blast beats and heavy guitar. I am not disappointed...

Pus Injection System
More juicy blast beats and crashing of cymbals with growling gruesome vocal that builds to a superb crescendo – I can literally feel the blood rushing around my body now as this takes hold... awesome track!

Dildo Torpedo
Heavy and melodic with the tell tale sound of “squeak” from the guitar and the gravelly vocal onslaught continues to wreak havoc on the listener. Savagely executed – can't keep still to this track at all.

Excruciating Severe Laceration
Sampled growls and a blasting array of beats this frenzied title track comes to life and literally pummels its way into the brain. The low growls make me reach for the volume control and fuck the neighbors who cares! The guitar absolutely shines on this track – it is like it is crying in agony and it more than likely is! - sheer brutality this will make your ears bleed and your neck ache!

Cunt from outta space
A bit of a gory beginning with the sound of ripping flesh and a voice saying “Where the fuck did she come from?” then it explodes in your face with a typical barrage of growls and grunts coupled with precision guitar and blasting beats that sound like a firing squad on speed. This is one awesome track from start to finish and gives you what you want!

Out of Blood, Slut and the Banana
Give me the savagery and brutality – this track has a banquet of it. It's driving melodic rhythms swathe you in the most brutal onslaught of deadly power known to man – it never loses its grip on your ears and is compelling to the end.

Dead Flesh Devours
I am eating your brains, I am gaining your knowledge!” this is one sick track without a doubt superbly executed by this lone creature we know only as Spasm The track literally carves its path right to your ears, smashes your skull and devours what is left of the brain make no mistake about it. Compelling and deadly this will indeed rip your face off!

Alcoholic Hallucinations
Who are you?” asks the sampled voice then the sound of an evil laugh ensues and then more guttural going's on come splattering from the shaking speakers building to a superb level of awesome brutality with heaps of melody contained within every note it breathes and longer than the previous tracks at 4 minutes 24 seconds. Believe me you won't want this track to end – highly pleasurable! I am enjoying being ripped apart by the menacing sounds within this deadly track oh yes!

Killing Time (Obituary Cover)
Sounding very much the same as the original by Obituary however I can honestly say this version sounds more deadly than Obituary and yes it is possible and considering this has been done by one man is to the total extreme end of the scale.

Uniformity
Heavy, compelling and engaging with superb guitar and pummeling drum beat with cookie monster vocals that add that brilliant flavor to the mix. I did not think it possible for anything to be played so fast but Spasm has shone again. It also shows off his bass skills with some hard edged brutal hooks. This is off the scale altogether! Brilliant!

Box of Pain
Some amazing samples start up that sounds like a gun being fired repeatedly with some blast beats following. The vocal content is highly addictive and sung sorry growled to perfection. This will make you go dizzy with the high degree of musicianship that is displayed here.

Liquefactive
I can't believe the album is at an end :( this track holds a good strong melody and is slightly slower than the previous tracks although not much and as the savagery continues it picks up pace once more and again hits the top level of brutal on the scale.

To sum up:
A highly pleasing and pleasurable listen to be had here. Despite the first track lulling you into a false sense of security but still played superbly there is not one duff track on the whole album. It wreaks of professionalism and expertly produced by Drift of Genes I can tell you in three words how I feel listening to this album and they are “smothered in brutality!” If you really dig the brutalz then you have to listen to this album but like a good chocolate bar it needs to be fully digested in order to get the best from it. So buy this album it doesn't get any better than this!
