Talk about busy weekend, after pulling off a superb gig at the Jubilee Club in Ashton Roadhog were off to fill a slot at the Old Market Tavern in Altrincham the next evening, a few of us were a little worse for wear the band seemed to have gained momentum and looked anything less than raring to go.

It’s a really friendly place and you can always get a seat near the stage so you don’t miss a thing. Jan, Jinxy and Andy turned up so I knew there was going to be a lot of laughter for this one and I wasn’t wrong in the least.

A good number of people turned up to support Roadhog who kicked the set off with some calmer numbers before ripping into the heavier tracks and taking the Tavern by storm.

The atmosphere was superb and everything gelled together as it should, people were happy and enjoying the music – that was until around 10 pm when Kev Hamlett showed me what had just happened in London while the band were, unfortunately, singing “Lights out in London!” It chilled me to the bone and a lot of people were shocked, angry and upset and quite rightly so.

We tried not to let it spoil our evening but it was on everyone’s minds – and once again the terrorist scum thinks they can do what they like in our Country with no consequences, however, we did manage to push through the anger and went on to have a good evening.

One couple whom I had seen at the last Tavern gig Dora and George who are around the 83 mark love their rock music and were seen headbanging away to Motorhead – I have to admire couple’s like that who have not let society change them in any way and go on to do what they enjoy the most. Hat’s off to them both and see you both at the next Tavern gig.

The band played an extra track for Margaret which was "Battleship Chains!" it's one of those tracks where you have just got to get up and show appreciation and so it was Margie and I up front giving it our all for such a great track.

Of course when Word up comes on it is a given that I get up off my lazy ass and go and do some energetic movement and this time was no different, although trying to sing and dance does take its toll - breathing is getting difficult but I just love that song and have to get up it is a given!

Kev came over and gave Oggy and me quite a few new CD's to listen to in the car how he does it is anyone's guess but he does come up with some good ones and we enjoy listening to them on the way home.

Well as Michael Molding got his own way with the Fleece and had it closed down, just to cause trouble and stop people having a good time nobody knows why, as there wasn’t any hassle there ever – it was a place everyone loved attending for rock music, oh and by the way Molding has his sights now set on closing down the King’s Arms, does someone think he has a screw loose? However, a new venue has been found the wonderful Jubilee Club.  I went there a few days after I had my double mastectomy, around New Year’s Eve, with Oggy’s Mum and Dad and had a right laugh. Oggy didn’t think I would be able to go out but I did and it was a really enjoyable event too!

The bar staff worked for absolutely nothing the other night and they looked after everyone, it was so nice to see people who really care so much about a venue and its punters – very heart-warming indeed.

As more and more faces turned up from the once thriving Fleece plus new faces I knew that this was going to be one of those very memorable gigs and I wasn’t wrong. Everyone gathered around the stage and watched as Roadhog got their gear sorted out – chatting and laughing in the meantime as the door kept opening and more people flooded through.

Roadhog never let their fans down, they go out of their way to make things as fun and happy as possible and it made it much better seeing a few family members as well as good friends joining in the banter.

The atmosphere was relaxing in a busy way everyone felt totally at ease and the music flowed like a river. As with most Roadhog gigs a few got up to dance – hard not to sometimes as your feet carry you up there although there are a few who want to get up but just don’t have the confidence to do it, which is a shame (and apologies for nearly losing Evie her right arm) I always get up to ‘Word up’ it is just a given now and I love Roadhogs version by Gun – although it isn’t exactly the same thanks to Oggy’s Tourette ridden microphone but it all adds to the fun.

I really do hope that this venue takes off in a big way and that bands are clambering to play the place and it becomes a regular haunt for all us die-hard rockers. Nick Davies did a good job but I was a little annoyed that some people didn’t have the manners to shut up while he was talking to us about what was happening next – as it is quite important information.

Thanks to everyone who turned up and made this first rock night extremely memorable and funny. To the bar staff who gave up their time for absolute zilch, the people who travelled over to support the band and venue and to Nick for arranging it all.

Please do come down to the next gig and support it as much as you can – we can make Ashton Rock again and just let Michael Molding start on the Jubilee…. He won’t win that one!
