Biography:
“Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Arsenic Addiction was formed in
2006. With powerful, explosive beats, menacing and melodic strings, soaring
vocals and demonic howls, Arsenic
Addiction injects something unique into today’s metal scene. “Music
resembles life,” they say, “and such as life, no one influence shapes who we
are today, and who we will be tomorrow." The band Arsenic Addiction is dedicated to the dead as opposed to the living
and merges the funereal with Metal - aiming to awaken the darker side in each
of us and to evoke the spirit of times past. Arsenic Addiction released their first E.P, “Requiem of the Fallen”
in 2009 and received extensive radio play and features in local media. “The
most important thing about these songs,” according to SLUG MAGAZINE, “is
they’re all backed with real emotion because in the end, who really wants to
listen to a band pretend to be angry and sorrowful when you can get the real
deal.” They then toured widely in Utah and neighbouring States, sharing the
stage with bands such as The Birthday Massacre, Dommin, Flaw and KREEP”
There are quite a few deep ravines of nothingness since the band
first started out in 2006 making their first E.P ‘Requium for the Fallen’ recording
in 2009 and then an even bigger chasm noted since their last full length album
‘An Undertaker’s Lament’ in 2010. That’s
a four year gaping void – but despite that, this album more than makes up for
the gaps.
Aphotic Rite Feat.
Elisabeth Anderson on violin
A meandering rich encounter with some deep textured passages that
are of the quite ‘epic’ variety with orchestral patterns weaving a tantalising
feature and a great start to the album.
Crown of Glass
This is where it gets quite ‘Gothicy’ with plenty of deep melody
with Lady Arsenic going from deep demonic gruffness to clean rich haunting
vocal – what a spectacular voice she has. This is just an amazing track full of
rich pickings.
Death’s Embrace
Ambient and dream-like structure with a beautiful vocal and equally
engaging rhythms that just simply captivate. The keyboard notes serve to
enhance the track by adding depth to its passages.
NecRomance
Rather a scathing infectious track that forcibly explores passionate
rhythms and hosts a dark evil vocal. Emerging as feisty and rapacious with
tormenting consequence.
Redemption Diaboli
‘Resistance is futile’ rhythmically coaxing with sinister approach –
Lady Arsenic intrigues with a spoken voice and predatory mood in this dark
malevolent offing.
Signatum in Sanguinem
Heavier and offers a swell of plumped rhythms that wrap themselves greedily
around a harsh and gnarly vocal reflection. The mood swings are very
temperamental moving from ambient to rhythmic.

Sonnet 33 As
Primeval and lustful this rhythm is gripping in a frenzied kind of
way. Unwavering in approach with a potent swathe of resounding drum beats.
Further on it ignites with a flourish and is unrelenting in its dramatic mix.
White Rabbit (Reborn)
(Jefferson Airplane)
Strong bass hooks and a regiment drum beat kick off with a
formidable keyboard presence. Enticed with a melodic seducing deep Cataclysmic
rhythm and strong pit born gruff growl make its presence felt.
Falling Reign
A creative and seductive masterpiece that scales the heights with a
sonically charged electric guitar exploding with an extreme passionate groove.
Patient No 21881
Offers some grand piano moments with flourishing passages of yet
more sultry seductiveness. The doom filled aura of an encompassing torrent of
melodic shadows hang over the track like a rabbit caught in the headlights and
leaves a lingering impression on which to end the album.
Summary
The seeds have been sown and as they grow they produce some of the
most tantalising bites of musical grandeur – is a good way of describing Arsenic Addiction.
In a pure brutal yet beautiful swathe of sometimes melancholy and
other times downright melodic ambiance – switching with ease so the listener
has a lot to grasp at as they fight the suffocating encounter.
The fight between the throaty punches of a harsh vocal to the sweet
lilting and haunting vocal is massive and all executed by the tremendous Lady
Arsenic! Energy pumps from all angles.
Despite the Gothic embraces of death and destruction the album holds
some delicate and complex patterns that you simply have to warm to, whilst on
the other hand there is that cold like steel side that brings you down to earth
with a bang.
The abrasive tempered dark side is mesmerising as it sweeps you up
into a frenzy of grand epic taunting.
This album is to be taken very seriously. The addiction is more than
a little arsenic - it is downright venomous!
