Full Album - New Chaos Order

Riot

As the title suggests this is a riot of rugged riffs hell bent on engaging the senses and terrorizing the ears. A frenzied and gripping track that tempts, teases and thoroughly enthralls.

Corruption of all Kings

This track is an all-out brawl that is all imposing and unrestrained. The dynamics are hell bent on destruction and madness.

Lies

Another tirade of frenzied venom and potent drumming magic that scars the ears rather than just washes over them.

Beginnings End

A rather muscular track that combines a fast pace with sheer brutality in vocal scoring. Its ferocity knows no bounds as it hammers out its forged path of molten metal.

New Chaos Order

This is raw and powerful. The melodic swagger is riveting as the track unfolds its eager rhythms onto a dark canvas of evil and paints furthering blackness through-out its deafening structure – superb track!

Death Place

Soaked in vibrant riffs and compelling beats this is another rampage of evil. Throws out plenty of contagious rhythms and fiery vocals that seethe from the murky depths.

Total Hate

Bewitching and stunning! It mesmerizes on thunderous levels and becomes an aggressor but one that prowls with predatory force. Enveloped in emotional turmoil it then quickens its tempo and goes straight for the jugular!

Here and Beyond

This is a track that can’t make its mind up whether it wants to be melodic or heavy at the start, however it decides on the latter for a brief time and then goes back into undetermined mode.

Injection

Is like feeling the effects of blunt force trauma as it explores its surroundings with a baseball bat and continues to smack you around the head showing no mercy what so ever!

Scums

This is like an express freight train that is coming straight for the audial canal. It does however slow be it briefly just to lull you into a false sense of security before throwing out some harsh bass hooks!

In Hell we Rest

Plants the seed of unrest, and sinister ambiance as it tail gates the senses. IT jabs ferociously and is a raucous battering of malice that shows outstanding musicianship.

Bonus Track: Retch

Nice to get a bonus track of yet more rugged aggression. The guttural growls are superb as they have been through-out the entirety of the album – no complaints there and plenty of virulence contained within the addictiveness of the track that bruises without restraint.

Summary

Just one slightly negative point to make and that is the track titles in the booklet are not in the same order as the CD which makes keeping up with tracks very difficult so highly confusing.

With that said the music contained on the CD is ferocious and highly strung and it makes listening to it highly pleasing!

For me those guttural growls are insane and pleasurable in every way. I love the odd appearance of the bass hooks which is very quirky indeed!

The pent up aggression and passions are let loose teasing and coaxing the listener so much so that they may find their heart rate going into serious overdrive!

The music reminds me of a person who is possessed and their limbs are twisted into unusual forms – it really sums this album up perfectly!

Distorted Mass of Uniformed Matters

Atmospheric labours usher forth and do so with a resounding chill down the spine. The thunderous velocity is ear-splitting and relentless. The clangorous effects penetrate on several levels.

Seeding Devolution

Portraying dogged roaring and gnawing deep toned malevolence it noisily fuels its aggression through an excessive terrorising. Its unstoppable frenzy literally going into over drive.

Legacy of Supremacy

Leaving a bitter taste of caustic agitation in the mouth this plagues the aural in a mad rampage of brutish and intense stalking.

Reverse Engineering

Explores an ambient side to the band in a brash and unforgiving way as it swirls into a gallant myriad of strange and eerie noises that are profound and deeply evil. The electrifying growls are heightened as the pulsating rhythms intensify.

The Sarcastic Maze

Gives the ears a good battering on this outing. The vocal are piercing and along with a rambunctious riffs the destructive contagion wastes no time in injecting its cancerous venom into an inquisitive mind.

Random Ascension

Explores a guitar riff that literally seethes under its own screams. The damming vocal pervades its goods in what is a deadly and ferocious attack and on doing so desensitizes its victims to receive an abundance of pain from its below zero breath.

Ashes of a New Era

Displaying urgency and promoting its progressive outlook to all who care to partake in its rewards this is an all-out attack like a shovel hitting the head several times over and mentally defeating its victims.

Summary

This is definitely gnarly progressive and flavoursome in delivery. It exhibits menace and brutality within its boundaries.

It has gnawing and antagonistic qualities attached to it that compliments the overall structures of riotous and vociferous mentality. It is like the band are leaders in a lawless society.

The music is disturbing and draining, showing a true obstinate nature that will not back down no matter how hard you try and coax it – 7^th Nemesis are NOT for turning!

The irregular patterns of the band’s music leave a cold, stark disorderly trace of deranged anger that mutates vehemently and is a complete madhouse of confused and chaotic frenzy.

Biography:

“Atrophy was born in 99. The band finds its musical inspiration with the precursors of Death Metal such as Suffocation, Death, and Atheist. The combo is composed of two guitarists (Julian and Mat) 1 bassist (Bertrand), 1 drummer (Ludo) and 1 vocalist (Fred).

In 2000, the band brought out its first demo "Atrophy" recorded by Ludovic Tournier (Himinbjorg).

The line-up stayed unchanged until 2003, the year of the second release of their demo "Dales" recorded by Ludovic Tournier and mastered at "L'autre studio". It is the same year that Jeff integrated the band as the new bassist.

ATROPHY have since evolved in a death metal style mixing speed, professional skill and jazz’s’ influences. These characteristics have allowed the band to acquire their own musical entity and a certain maturity in their compositions.

Since the beginning of 2006, ATROPHY returned to the studio in order to create a video clip "Le mouvement perpétuel" for the new Internet site.

At the end of 2006, Fred left the band and Stef took his place.

In 2009 the band worked on their first album, called "The Veil from Beyond".”

The only thing that fills me with some intrepidation is the word ‘Jazz’ as it is not something I particularly go for or enjoy, but sometimes mixing genres helps, we shall see how things pan out here.

Prelude to Occultation

A very relaxed stroll through a melodic haze of guitar strings with the sound of children playing in the background.

Lexical Occultation

Well I have to say that the second track makes up for the strange beginning on the first track and is indeed a doorway into an all-out scathing of rabid growls and high pitched squeals - it’s not bad at all.

And suddenly springs up

Some quite strange goings on – it leaves one waiting in anticipation as the metronome ticks. Then its mighty swipes are apparent and bludgeon the senses with an impressive hammer blow.

Symbol Matching

Quite a venomous track in itself, helped along by lashings of gnarly vocal edge and is a very predominant feature of the track. However the musical accompaniment is a scarring intervention with unusual extras.

The Ancient Lore

Sinister and imposing this track is deep and unforgiving with the rabid and raspy breath and jabbing riffs that bring it into existence. It holds passion in extreme amounts and very pleasing on the ears.

Soon...

Takes us back to humble beginnings of the album in another ‘stroll in the park’ syndrome, however it is a beautiful track that does show creativity and classical composure and what’s more is gentle and alluring.

Final Dimension

Back to its comfort zone of highly mesmerising riffs and gallant beats, it thunders into view and makes its presence felt in this damming track and explores an emotive landscape.

Perceptions

No let here either as the vocals become possessed and turn virulent with their high pitched frenzy, although tempered by the low guttural throaty lures. A stunning array of skill.

Escape to the Non existent

Still feeding from its rampage the next track blisters in readiness for more assault attack antics and not slow in coming forward either. Highly crafted and offering raw enticement.

Randomized Lives

Twisting and turning this one blisters with a highly intense gait. It is powerful as it is captivating and so far I haven’t heard anything too ‘Jazzy’ which is a real plus point, although it clearly points to jazz elements contained within the tracks but they don’t go all out to irritate.

Summary:

A highly engaging album that has not irked me for its jazz components. It is quite unusual offering two lightly refreshing tracks and eight in your face caustic and dramatic tracks that keep the listener well and truly entertained.

The album unleashes some very spellbinding moments hammered with predatory riffs and suggestive rhythms that surge in a haze of darkness.

I am quietly surprised by the album, although its vocals more than whet my appetite and keep me focused on the job in hand.

Biography:

“DYLATH-LEEN results of an alchemy of styles, vocals, sounds and atmospheres that give it such particular mark. Formed in 1999 and in a Death-Metal vein, the band draws its originality from the performance of a surprising female singer and guitarist who mixes death, black and melodic vocals in a personal and innovative style. The deep male vocals, the polished bass, drum parts and the massive guitars offer this band a unique personality on the Metal scene!”

The album comes with lyric booklet and in a gate-fold sleeve. The front cover holds more of a death metal feel to it as it is punishingly gory. It’s a great name for a metal band, however I just want to call them De’ath-Leen for some weird reason.

Never Rising Sun

With fiery breath from Kathy leaves one open mouthed and wondering if she has been possessed by a black-hearted evil spirit and the answer to that is most probably! It embraces with cold steel fingers that tighten with a vice like grip.

End of Time

Is rather a melodic rapture that feeds its frenzy with a malevolent and skilful nature, baring the scars of dark and atmospheric coldness whilst still showing signs of life that burn under the surface of its colossal structure.

The Elder Sign

Deeply strained growls usher forth in a putrid mass of obnoxious drum beats that twist beneath a molten core of death. It holds varying degrees of hypnotic persuasion that lingers.

I Dreampt

The darkened slabs of drumming are prevalent and weigh it down until a shrill black vocal steels the limelight in a bid to play host to yet another grizzled, tumultuous track that is wrapped in sinister intrigue.

Last Moments

Can boast melodic with a hard drum beat running through its hardened core. The deeper vocals run with the track but keep it leveled and low key. It’s brooding and deliciously dark in delivery.

I’m the Crusher

Rhythmically charged with aggression it screams with an adrenalin pumped fury and parades a certain excitement across the aural and commands listener attention. Superb Track!

Superb performance by Dylath-Leen

Silent Land

There is nothing silent about this believe me.  Its potent melodic hues swamp the ears and terrorises with an overload of infectious slurry deep from the bowels of hell and smouldering with fierce grooves.

Forever still

Holds plenty of beauty and ambiance as its notes pervade the senses in a sweep of caressing intrigue. It pulls a cloak of meandering exploits around the listener and is ridiculously magnetic

Unveiled

Is a rampaging creative piece of skilled and fiery imagination that challenges with bold and uncompromising teasing? The deep cavernous vocals lay under a haunting lilt - and the music is caustic and venomous, while also being atmospheric and engaging.

Where the Vision Led

To finish the album the final track goes out all guns blazing in an attempt to capture the listener and make their mark. Formidable and raw the resounding riffs soar in a potent mix of drums and bass hooks which stand out pleasingly in all aspects.

Summary:

This is quite a sultry album that gathers momentum at times and runs away with itself and other times it stays still and nestles into the psyche. Unpredictable with plenty of hostility and dark imaginative creativity.

It gnaws vehemently on the senses and can be unassuming so you never know which path it is going to take on listening which fills this album full of promise despite being released in 2011.

Kathy’s vocal range is stunning going from deep growls to lilting beauty and is extremely and powerful.

“FMR are probably the most elusive band you will ever come across, and the fact could simply be For Many Reasons! Even their album gives very little away and if it does the type is so dark and written so the eye cannot fully focus on the information.  Whether this is deliberate remains to be seen, however, if I ever do discover the whereabouts of FMR I shall of course put the links here, but for now it will just remain a blank and ambiguous void!”

Hell

The titles are short and sweet! This one starts off with an unsettling whisper and then explodes with dynamic intervention. Nothing is obscured here for sure. It elevates to great heights with badgering riffs and creepy harrowing menace – its tumultuous rhythms are very addictive and pleasurable to the ears.

Way

With the album under certain wraps this track appears from behind its cloaked encounter and offering a certain unrest to its pandemonium. Its lively motion functions on a bristling heavy force field of synchronised energy.

Hole

An agile track that is yet slow to make headway. Possessing ambiance and torrid riffs that occupy the track and as it furthers it becomes more fluid in projecting its motives.

Sky

Has a laced inter structure that paints a frosty and bleak back drop. Its desolate landscape although offering some tender drenched moments just ambles into a nothingness and quite undisciplined.

Colours

Is a sharp synth and anger ridden drum moment in which the two come together and give birth to stirring and agitating rhythms that are captivating and enthralling.

Truth

Is a squally and disturbing composition of deepness encountering a haunting synth ensemble that manifests into a monstrous plague of energy that pervades the senses with vocals from Dan Swanö.

Silence

Possesses another unusual opening but is soon back on track and thrusting out its familiar tones, although not altogether death metal tones – this has an edge to it and stirs up some feisty commotion.

Funeral

The bell tolls in an eerie landscape of loneliness. The haunting chills of singular notes suddenly fades and a deep racket starts with brawling throaty lures and strenuous rhythms that are gnarly and chaotic. Furthering deeper into the track Anneke Van Giersbergen can be heard with her lilting vocal portraying a melancholic superiority.

Summary

Although this album does house a lot of pleasurable moments it doesn’t flow constantly so attention can be slightly lost at times.

It does appear anarchic in parts which can also be a good thing as it says the band are flexible in approach and not stuck within the limits of their genre or at least trying to focus in on new territory.

But by the time the final riffs are played you can pick out some humongous and memorable moments and savour them religiously!
