Mastication of Brutality Uncontrolled – Aschaffenburg, Germany

Genre: Brutal Slam Death Metal/Grindcore

In the bands own words:
In 2007, MASTICATION OF BRUTALITY UNCONTROLLED was planned as a side project of the members Danny (Guitar) & Flo (Drums/Guitar) [both Incesticide] and Daniel (Bass) [Provocation], but after the first jam sessions the three musicians stopped jamming due to a lack of time. Two years later, in November 2009, Flo (Guitar) [Incesticide, Cervet, Provocation] and Basti (Drums) [Clit$plit] started some jam sessions with the intension of having fun by playing brutal shit. This combo worked out very well so the two decided to write songs in the vein of their favourite bands, such as INHERIT DISEASE, DYING FETUS, DISGORGE and many more. From this point the band MASTICATION OF BRUTALITY UNCONTROLLED was founded and also no side-project anymore, rather an intense band with the aim of playing brutal live shows and having fun by presenting their music to the rest of the world. Soon bass-player Nasar [Carnal Decay] joined the brutal duo, and the three continued to write songs, while they searched for a vocalist. Finally, at the beginning of 2010, Laudi (Vocals) [Hateprison] joined MASTICATION. With this constellation the band played their first gig at the Eisenwahn Warmup 2010. After that Show, Rob (Session-Guitar) [Epicedium] and Chris (Vocals) [Retaliation] joined the Band to complete the Line-Up. NOW, MASTICATION OF BRUTALITY UNCONTROLLED IS READY TO SLAM YOUR ASSES!!”

It seems that Germany is making more than a few waves in the music biz these days.  They seem to have got the whole of the Cyber/Industrial niche to themselves and to gallop to another genre of the brutal slamming variety they also seem to be striding ahead and making headway there although Indonesia are giving them a run for their money!

The Equity
As far as tracks go I don’t think it comes anymore brutal than this with its tremendous cookie monster vocal, hearty pummeling that is hammered home yet fiercely controlled blast beats and blistering vehement guitar riffs, Whilst the bass it has to be said also gives this track a mighty push in the right direction.   You know immediately what you are in for as soon as it starts. Despite two vocalists there is not a clean vocal to be heard which will please my other half somewhat, as he always says a clean vocal can take away the brutal edge – but on this track what you get is the brutal ferocious metal, no holds barred. Laudi has a more shrill pitch, whilst Chris takes on the grunts and growls so it is a good combination.

How the Germans do it! Chris and Laudi battle it out at Sultans of Death

Despite there being just the one track to review it is an intense track that holds captivating interest – if you love this style of metal, (and I do most definitely) then it is well worth checking these guys out.

Genre: Brutal Office Death Metal

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they come across a band that instantly grabs their attention and Scanner Smashed Face is one such extraordinary band.

Maybe it is my fascination of paperwork or being on a computer nearly 24/7 I don’t know, but the title tracks certainly strike a chord with me. The short little ditties take me back to the days of office working and battling on a daily basis with the photocopier who always saw fit to spray me with toner ink whilst wearing a white top just before an important meeting and getting my fingers caught in the laminating machine – of course this was back in the day as an office junior... But I cannot help but feel totally sympathetic with these guys because I have been there with the stationery clerk going through her staple collection and checking to see how many calculators had mysteriously vanished as well as having a battle with the water machine and losing – it certainly is another world and these guys have taken it one step further putting their own unique blend of Brutal Office Death Metal together in 22 easy stages, so step inside and take a peak – but don’t blame me if you don’t come out alive!

Scanner Smashed Face formed in 2011 - and in the bands own words:

ANY OFFICE MURDERING UNDERTAKEN AFTER LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM IS TOTALLY NOT OUR FAULT. GROW UP AND GET A LIFE!”

The artwork to this amazing 14 minute – 22 track extravaganza (yes 22 tracks!) is a picture of an empty call centre focused on the blue screen of death. Straight and to the point unlike the boss’s agenda at meetings!

Blue Screen of Death
The sound of someone typing on a computer and getting error plinks! – don’t you just hate that! The scourge starts up feverishly with the sound of arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Then stops and a phone rings, don’t you just hate that too? Right in the middle of extreme panic – someone decides to call and ask if you are OK! :/

Scanner Smashed Face
Yes the familiar sound of a feckin’ photocopier with some superior growling and blast beats to follow.

Corpse Cabinet
This is obviously dedicated to a filing clerk... who evidently never did any filing otherwise they would have discovered the bodies...

Foetus in the Stuffing Machine
Very macabre indeed with ominous amounts of chanting vocal and damming blast beats. Found out a stuffing machine is a machine that stuffs teddy bears although not seen one in an office before!

Call Centre Autopsy
Sound of annoying phone ringing – and the sound of a peculiar woman (!) Pam answering a call from Brett Steelman of Synergize Validation Systems – she asks for a Customer ID number – he replies Murder 369 – she types it in and the sound of terrifying screams can be heard – Brett tries to get some response and then a deep voice says “Please hold” Then you hear “Integrated Data Statistics - We care about your integrated data!” This track has got to be one of the most interesting tracks I have heard in a long time – But what happened to Pam?

Staple tits
So short it does not even give you time to staple two pieces of paper together! But that’s all it takes! Ouch!

Head in a Water Cooler
The sound of gurgling water and then it explodes into a scathing vocal, damming rhythms and blast beats. Hey! I think that guy just drowned or is he pissed?

Fire Drill Death Stampede
Oh that annoying sound of a pointless fire alarm... brutal vocals and blast beats that sound like a lot of people running down a fire escape to the land of nowhere – or is that the pub?

Hung from a Tie
Yes I know that feeling! – waiting for anything to be done in an office can have this effect – “Hanging from a tie – you will not survive!” But more chance of surviving that than getting your wages on time eh!

Deadly Spread Sheet Malfunction
The curse of Excel – this track sums it up brilliantly but does not tell you how to correct the error!

That explains a lot!

Deadly Manager Encounter
“Are you looking at porn at work?” “No! It’s a spread-sheet!” “My office! Now!” “I hate you!” Yes some Managers just have no sense of humour at all!!

Murder King Lunchtime Brutality
Get set goooooooooo! – it’s a quick getaway for lunch – try to beat the queues and end up with a cold burger! You may have to resort to using a poison dart! Although not sure what Mark is saying but sounds like he is repressed.

Office Chair Death Race
Never tried this but I believe it can be fatal especially when stairs are involved! But the track does not tell you what happened to the unfortunate employees who did try it! For those who haven’t tried it – it is like a mosh pit only done with people sitting in chairs! who madly push themselves about from one end of the office to another, and if your chair spins round that's a bonus! You get the picture?

Hard Drive Soft Skull
This conjures up a rattled employee banging his head on a hard drive for some weird reason and of course getting fired as a result I should not imagine!

Genital Shredder
The sound of something getting mangled in the shredder – no clues for guessing what! But the guys do a good rendition of it on this short track.

Super Fun Team Building Fun Day
Don’t you just hate those days – team-building! – Yup! They usually destroy all moral in a matter of minutes!  “So you have to build a bridge across this river with your colleagues!” Sound of drills, hammer and nails and... As asked he made a bridge using his “colleagues”:D the sound of agonising moans can be heard, well he did say build a bridge with his colleagues didn’t he? There is always one!

Rapeler
Sounds like something a lot of office workers would do at a Christmas party locked in a stationary cupboard! But this is only my interpretation – feel free to use your own ideas!!

Ctrl Alt Kill
The office saga continues – be it brief for this little ditty – but you have all heard of Control Alt Delete yes? Well these guys have removed a key and added another one!

Car Pool of Blood
Sound of a car engine, the mad frenzy as 5 o’clock approaches the mad scurry to the car park leaving a trail of office files in their wake. By 5.05 pm – well - let’s say there is a lot of cleaning up to be done and not just the office files!

Foul Xerox Infestation
Those Xerox Machines can be deadly – the drum beats document a flurry of paper that seems to be exploding from the machine – what – did nobody think to sit naked on the machine for a bum print? Damn!

Painful Paperclip Insertion
Amazing where you find paperclips these days but more so in an office – or should that read orifice!! This scathing little track outlines exactly where!

Deadly Manager Encounter Part 2: Hell Fired
Evaluation time! Oh dear... “I’m afraid you are going to have to find another job!” “Now that is dealt with, we need to get to the bottom of our unusually high staff turnover!” Yes this just about sums up office mentality to a T – don’t mind if I do... No sugar in mine thanks!

                           Shit!

From start to finish this is one unique blend of office tomfoolery accompanied by some serious extreme office death metal and trust me when I say yes, they do mix, extremely well. For me I can relate to every track and thoroughly enjoyed Call Centre Autopsy and Super Fun Team Building Fun Day as they are both highly entertaining and really do put things into perspective.

Call Centres are without a doubt a nightmare to work in and stress! – blimey – a heart attack is certainly on the cards if you work there full time and if you don't get a heart attack you will end up in an insane asylum!

Well done guys on such a brilliant, well thought out piece of work.  It is without a doubt a true masterpiece of modern science and well executed err maybe that is the wrong choice of words here but well produced anyhow!

Mark and Jason - surviving the office brutality

For anyone who loves death metal – the office way - then do check these guys out – All that is left to say is – I wished SSF had been at the Call Centre I used to work at because at least it would have lightened the load!

A must hear album without a doubt for office metal heads with a cheeky sense of humour!

Released 10th November 2012

Garten Der Asche – UK/South Africa

Genre: Dark Electro/EBM/Industrial

Hail to the dark side!  After six years away from the scene; Garten Der Asche – Translated as Garden of Ashes (My German comes in handy here!) are back with one of the most impressive albums to date.  Not only are the members miles apart one being in the UK and the other in South Africa, they say it works extremely well – Oh to the joys of the Internet working at its best!

Both members have side projects Paul’s being Future Frenetic – TBM/Futurepop and Philbrey’s being Cinderfall – Darkwave. Although; I had, until this point in time not heard anything by the band, I do however recognize the name Paul Baumgartner as being associated with the fabulous System FX which is well worth mentioning and are featured on this tremendous album.

The covers as with maybe 95% of this genre is straight and to the point and this one is no different with just the title of the album and the band’s name but with the exception of an evil looking leather-clad male with whom you do not want to mess with on its cover...

Nemesis
Nice superb jagged little beats are exquisitely produced and molded to perfection on this highly addictive track, with striking vocal content. My only bug bare being a small one is how to keep still when reviewing such dramatic music? – As it begs to be moved to providing you are not a lump of stone!

Patriot Act V2
“It’s all about the information!” Indeed it is and the information coming across here is loud and clear. With a mix of clean and scathing industrial vocal pronounced rhythm a plenty it offers pure addictability as always with this genre and simply captivates and offers the dance floor a spectacular piece of blatant rhythmic splendor.

Remember V2
Dark and ominous beats flow in a regimented fashion – then a bubbling frenzy of beats accompany a glorious scathing vocal which in turn changes into clean with haunting synth melodies. The chanting vocals add to the mesmerising sound of this great track.

Nemesis (Acylum Remix)
Horrific screams begin amid death defying grisly vocals that will immediately capture the attention. The dark foreboding rhythms and flurry of synth are strikingly intense that come with a powerful sound and definitely will not allow the listener’s attention span to fade.

Nemesis (Acretongue Remix)
A brooding, most sinister and dark opening with incidental sounds that give the track immense foreboding as well as its complex rhythms – damming and brutal with an impressive spark flowing unbridled in extreme grit with its sparse but tingling and yet subtle synth just reached its peak and beyond.

Nemesis (System:FX Remix)
Stark, daring, bold and ambient this track forges into life, with bubbling jerky rhythms and a melodic, hypnotic barrage of synths - I simply defy anyone not to be impressed with this. Nice derisive vocals hold plenty of bite with caustic production – feel your body move uncontrollably to its feisty beats or be damned. This is without a doubt my favourite track on the album.

Nemesis (DJ Transporter Old School Electro Mix)
Hypnotic thuds; swirling rhythms amid scornful vocals offers a total head fuck as to the scales, as tempestuous as they are flurry in unison to the all-out pulsating quirky madness.

This seven track album with its coarse vocals and subtle yet extreme synth melodies knows no limits. It’s crushing and no doubt a welcome return back into the fold of its dark electro genre – we need more of Garten der Asche without a doubt and now the band have peaked my interest I will have to go and dig out some of the bands old stuff and get acquainted.

Torn the Fuck Apart – Kansas City

Genre: Death Metal

In the band’s own words:
“Since the formation of Kansas City’s - Torn the Fuck Apart in late 2004, the band has been busy ripping people’s faces off with a relentless onslaught of brutality. With the release of 2006’s E.P “Skinned Alive” and consistent touring, the band gained many loyal followers. In July 2009 they released their first full length album, "Gods of Gore" and embarked on a US tour with metal veterans Monstrosity in support of it. They have continued to perform regularly around the Midwest during the past three years while writing and recording their follow up album, "...The Dissection of Christ” which was released in April 2012. Check them out online to see when and where you can catch Torn the Fuck Apart devastate a stage near you!”

I loved what the band listed as Influences as “Anything that kicks you in the fucking face!” It just about sums this band up in one sentence really.

You don’t really need me to tell you that these guys are death metal heads you only have to look at the titles to know that, with a pure hatred of religion – and who can blame them? But I am not going to get on my soap box and start preaching to the already converted.

This is one mutha of a CD it looks great with its gore-intense cover, blood, guts you name it and more importantly it sounds even better!

God’s Blood turned Black
This track will smother you in brutal beats so much that by the time you have finished listening you will have bruises over every inch of your body without even being near a mosh pit! The scalding vocals will burn your brains out and leave them like pulp, whilst the gnarly guitar riffs speed into action and will leave a trail of utter destruction. Both dynamic and intricate this is one metal track which is compelling and deadly!

Father of Filth
“You see you can’t just go around fucking boys in the street, people get mad! So what we do is we build churches around the world and tell people they got to come there to pray – give us their money or they will go straight to hell! – Now that gives us the authority and the gravitas to control their lives, most importantly to give us their young boys so we can educate them – feed them – and ultimately fuck ‘em in the ass and face” Are the words nonchalantly spoken on this track. It is a really brutal and ferocious piece of music that indeed tells a sad depressing story.

The Dissection of Christ
“Do you realize what this means? That you are no longer content with hearing your awful music and looking at photos of their horrific faces, now you want to see the devil in the flesh! You want to reach out and touch pure evil!!!” Says the ramblings of a hysterical woman... the blast beats continue to tell the story along with pure evil, gargled vocals that are both savage, and low-end in delivery take on a very definitive sense amid a screeching vicious guitar riff that would wake the dead!

Our Serpent Saviour
Speedy riffage with pitiless blast beats just conquer amid violent and severe barrage of growled vocals. So good I am literally drooling as I have my mouth open at the ferocity of the said track. A brief respite starts up before things turn even more aggressive, but within the track is great melody and rhythm.

Bashed in Prophets
“Open your eyes and look at what you did, (Sobbing) “Look or I will cut your eye lids right off your face” Extremely brutal and savage and the music has not started yet! True to form; the intensity of ferocious rhythms and harsh vocals come into play here and will tear your whole face off let alone your eye lids!

Purgatorium (Instrumental)
This track however, does slow to reveal some really sophisticated riffs and powerful drum beats before finishing and merging with the next track – superbly done and a great instrumental.

Dead Religion
“You are 100% sure that after you die you’ll go to a better place? - “I know I will be with God, I will be with Jesus!” - “And that’s a better place?” “Errrm!”  Indeed a good question! And one the band have documented well on this austere track. More unembellished blast beats, heavy dark riffs and an uncompromising ascetic vocal – that tells it like it is! With a great melodious breakdown that holds sheer intensity fires fast and serious.

Dead Religion

Decapitated Disciples
Nice chugging riffs and subsonic guttural vocals create this masterpiece with grim unnerving consequences. If the harsh and unrelenting vocals touched your skin they would leave festering blisters! A monster of a track!

Crucifixion Infection
A car radio bursts into action with some country type singing until rudely interrupted by some scornful vocals that sound like they are coming from the bowels of hell. Building deranged rhythms and scathing hammering beats continues to mock the afflicted with resounding precision. Like a police battering ram on a junkie’s front door!

Angels Decayed in Dust
“I don’t believe in heaven, I believe in pain, I believe in fear, I believe in death!” These words are spoken to the sound of a howling wind until a ferocious array of hammering synchronized beats that take over with compelling rigidity whilst the vocals are putrid and menacing – as you would expect, we are talking death metal here, but Torn the Fuck Apart have mastered the art to perfection. The breakdowns of melodious splendor on this track; are just immense and will leave you mesmerized at the ferocity contained within it.

This album will tear you apart make no mistake about it. It rubs salt into the wounds of religion and fears death not! It is the whole package – I so urge all you death metallers to check this album out – Although it is nothing new to the death metal scene it will not fail to make a dirty big impression on your mind and leaves your soul crying for mercy holding a viciousness all its own and breeding a certain ruthlessness into your very being.

So if you like your metal rough, with sprinklings of cruelty then this is one album you need to shove in your ever growing CD collection – Do it! And be Torn the Fuck Apart! If on the other hand you are a bit on the anally retentive side then this will not be your crate of Jaeger and I suggest you go loosen up a bit!

Highly recommended listening!
