Veterans of Rock Roadhog got down and dirty once again for a superb two set at Lamberhead Green in Pemberton.

Well it is safe to say I have visited quite a few venues in my time but the Lamberhead Green WMC is one of the friendliest places yet, plus there is a full size stage.  No pocket handkerchiefs for this club!

Roadhog did play exceptionally well and this was I feel due to a recent intense rehearsal that ironed out the previous wrinkles from the past and allowed things to progress on a more smoother level.

The band have been through some pretty bad times over the past year or so with band members leaving like with any band, but they have always maintained a professional performance, not letting the drudgery of life’s shit impede on their set.

They completely lose themselves in the moment and read their audiences like a pamphlet knowing which buttons to press to get the best out of them, and in return the audiences respond warmly, sometimes even chaotically, but there is always a response!!

It wasn’t a full house in Pemberton being Roadhog’s first time playing there, but the crowd that were there appreciated the band 100%.

I have never heard such positivity for a band and was stopped in the Ladies by women raving about how good the sound was, how good the vocals were, the choice of tracks the band played, it was quite intense.

The people at the club were friendly beyond compare and the surroundings were welcoming, warm and impressively extensive.

Their set is a visit to the past that always seems to be miles away until Roadhog start playing and impressively bring back to life the tracks of yesteryear with a warm embrace.

The crowd responded by getting up and letting their hair down. There has been very few times when an audience hasn’t responded to the classics, and no exception here either! Now Roadhog have added a few more tracks to the set including ‘Forever’ by Y&T and ‘The Zoo’ by the fabulous Scorpions.

The volcanic melodies of such tracks indeed transport you to a time when everything was a lot simpler, rock was just that ROCK. No sub genres, no complications – just people brought together to enjoy great music, and at a Roadhog gig that is what you get, but with a lot more banter thrown in.

The band usually start their set with a less raucous feel and gently warm into their second set which always provokes the audience to go a bit wild, especially on their final track which they always dedicate to all the bikers out there (and why not they are a good set of peeps) we are talking about ‘Born to be wild’ here and wild everyone went!

There is of course always that ‘come down’ after a gig that gives you a time to reflect on what you have just witnessed and indulged in. Somehow Friday night’s gig was like leaving behind old friends despite them being new ones – so it was doubly poignant.

Here’s hoping Roadhog get another chance to play there again as it ticked all the boxes for a fantastic evening’s entertainment with great company.
