Metal with a twist
PANDEMIK are a four piece band hailing from Liverpool, and who describe their music as “Metal with their own kind of twist” opened at the cosy little venue tucked away in Back Berry Street known as Mojo’s.
Marc the bands awesome front man stands literally shoulders above the rest, under a shroud of dark hair, was growling away as we arrived.
The sound at the last Mojo’s gig wasn’t too hot, but this time round the sound was about 98% improved which was good news for bands and fans alike as Pandemik brutalized their set. Despite the ferocity of the music, Marc revealed to me after the show that he wasn’t into being “serious” on stage, although the music is very serious for all of them!
Their music has a nice edge to it. Music to bang your head to! Although Marc did also say that he hoped there would be a mosh pit but this didn’t happen as people were just mesmerized by their blend of death metal with a sickened twist.
“Necrotikron” began with some amazing clean guitar and a flurry of pounding drums. WYSIWYG or (what you see is what you get) with Pandemik... no nonsense all out brutality!
Great up tempo beats insanely fast and sometimes slower but never the less have that touch of sheer class that makes you want to bang your head to and a lot more besides.
“OCD” was a particularly memorable track as Marc asks the crowd who repeatedly checks the door to see if it is locked, and who strives for perfection, to which I had to raise my hand, but it has never been a real problem for me as I won’t do anything unless I feel it is perfect. coming to see this band I know I have reached perfection!
Highly recommended watching and listening Pandemik are spreading the infection and I am truly hooked!!

WEKINDRED
I couldn’t find any links for this band at all. But hat's off to them for stepping up as replacement for ADUST who had to cancel last moment due to health problems.
I was surprised and somewhat anxious when I saw the band appear on stage with acoustic guitars but was pleasantly surprised to find that they were plugged into an amp and did sound quite meaty. Although not the usual listening I didn’t find the band offensive or un-listenable to, but it just somehow didn’t shine as much as the other bands did on the night.
But it has to be said that the Wekindred guitarist front man Carl (complete with bobble hat) did display a sticker across his chest supporting Pandemik which wasn’t a bad thing! Plus there was a lot of energy from the band, but drummer Sam looked in a kind of trance as he sat pounding the skins and totally oblivious to the outside world!
The thing I find most annoying when bands finish a track, is that when the vocalists are introducing the next song, the other band members see fit to keep plugging away at their instruments and being partially deaf does nothing for me trying to keep up with what they are saying! Sadly 98% of the bands do that at gigs, just as bad as the annoying background music during films when someone is narrating a scene... so please all bands cut this out it is highly annoying and very unprofessional!

THIS IS TURIN
Technical Death-Core Metal
THIS IS TURIN is a five piece technical death-core metal band from Cheshire. Never seen before by myself in these parts and so a welcome change to see such an amazing band, who I think brought half of Cheshire with them!
Darryl the band’s voice commented about having Elvis behind him, (Meaning the backdrop to the stage) he was lucky because we had Elvis in front of us... never did like that back drop or Elvis come to that!
The Melodies provided a perfect balance to the music with an awesome brutal speed with a nice texture of evil sounding vocals that complimented the style of the band.
Blast beats from Ed flowed constantly and were very impressive. Whilst the barrage of extremely aggressive grisly vocals melted the layers of groove laden riffs and was extremely pleasing to the ears.
Bassist Gaz just showed his expertise with some solid bass lines that left you in no doubt that This is Turin is serious about their music!
Each song was executed with precision and fluency, and unleashed on the innocent crowd. Infectious and powerful the music just pulverises with no let-up what so ever! Rabid carnage and fiendish butchery was rife here!
Darryl goaded the crowd into putting their hands in the air, and immediately there was a sea of hands, as he ploughed relentlessly into the next track.
There was a funny highlight when after I got the set-list and was re writing it for Hez... I mistook the track “Lilly” for “Willy” but I blame it on my failing eye sight! Lol.
“To your Knees” the penultimate track of the set just thundered with some great carnivorous growling from Darryl and some awesome blasting beats from Ed, made this track stand out for me.
If you like loud raucous metal then watch out for “This is Turin” because the word disappointment doesn’t exist in their dictionary!

BURY THE CONSCIOUS
Progressive/Technical Metal
Well having seen BURY THE CONSCIOUS twice before, second time being at Helrazer I (shameless plug) I can honestly say that these guys have progressed and sound as tight as ever. Even Nic commented that they are moving away from the more progressive side and capturing a more ‘groove’ element in their playing strategy, which really complimented the bands style of playing.
The band appeared at Bloodstock a few weeks ago and I think that has given the band a lot more confidence. Their set was polished despite a few minor errors commented on by Mike the band’s vocalist, but the crowd were seemingly unaware and just enjoyed the set anyway! And great to see them Headlining!
Each member of the band had their own look of “extreme pleasure” slapped across their face with each number they played. Luke the bands bassist has really come into his own and looked far more relaxed on stage now than previously. Dan the bands guitarist and “other” vocalist grimaced along with each track and stomped rhythmically in time to the beat, awesome watching!
Matt’s welcome animalistic growls added to the set, whilst the other Matt got down and dirty behind his kit and lashed out some awesome beats. Mike the bands actual throat attacked each track with venomous brutality again the typical trait that is BTC with insane expression impaled on his face.
The crowd moved closer to the stage and gave it their all! Hardly surprising considering the atmosphere in the place, relaxed and friendly but never being far away from the brutality that we were all there to witness.
In the bands own words they mention bringing moments of “sheer brutality, energy, groove, harmony and ambience” to a gig but they brought much more besides to this one!
It has been fantastic to witness the bands upsurge in just two months! Stronger and tighter in sound, the music is a lot more consistent with elements of groove and yet still technical meaning there literally are no limits for BTC, so at the next gig expect things to move up a further notch!
