Unbidden are a 5 piece Blackened death metal band hailing from Sydney, Nova Scotia, in Canada, formed in 2008, and signed to Boonsdale Records.
I received my copy of “Slaughtering the Vile” courtesy of Devin Meaney from none other than Proctophobic who also hail from glorious Canada.
The cover is rather sinister looking depicting a lonely man amongst what looks like foggy woodland... very creepy indeed and the split down the front of the CD just seems to add something extra, courtesy of Royal Mail! But considering it took nearly 2 months to arrive... I feel I was lucky to get the contents!
This 7 track CD has been well put together. It has all the lyrics on the inside middle covers, as well as a great picture of the band on the inside cover...
“Slaughtering the Vile” as the name suggests means death metal but these guys have an evil blackened twist.
Wind tunnel vocals and some blast beats to be proud of along with some chunky riffs open this track; add in some meaty bass and you have “Carnivorous Retribution”. The intricate workings fuse together with a few opulent bits thrown into the mix.
"Vitiate" has some nice low growls and shredding riffs, typical of a death metal band, but none the less as brutal as any other! The evil screams are a sick touch and the controlled beats make it an interesting track especially with the classical guitar and the echo effect at the end.
"Cast the Stone" offers some great blast beats and low growls and the thunderous riffs keep on coming with venomous force! An epic track with so much more going on in it! Very fast up tempo guitar riffs that just melt your face off at alarming speed.
"Primeval" has some great guitar and awesome vocals to open, which sound like the singer is coming up for air! Maybe he is!!... A fast paced track with plenty of interesting little touches. Well balanced vocally as well as musically. The bells are a great touch as they are not too in your face but a nice hint to accompany the sickest vocals known to man.
“Visceral Cadaverine” is another fast paced track, which exuberates a slightly jazzy feel to it, as the blast beats constantly pound with the bass. Nasty vocals mould themselves around the ferocious music, and in parts chant! Rhythmic beats lift the song and give it a great ambiance all its own. When the track slows into some awesome guitar with very creepy ambient tones it feels as if it shouldn’t be there. But cleverly incorporated into the track with the lingering fading vocals – great song!
"... Wherein Lies Deceit" More nasty sounding vocals open this track with the constant riffs and thunderous blast–beat drumming. Nice and raw! The vocals switching from low growls to screeching higher pitch give it this raw feeling. The guitar sounds are clean but none the less pack a punch! The keyboards are just magnificently spine-chilling on this track!
"Iblis" Some awe inspiring drumming really builds to a crescendo of brutal-ness in its prime! The vocals again with that low guttural blend of terror, strike a blow in the belly of the listener, accompanying the shrill pitched nastiness and blast beats that bring this track together superbly! Great guitar solo, of shredding excellence! A very intense listen!
A well-produced CD, with lots of nice or should that be ‘nasty’ touches to what can only be described as a brutal feast! Check the band out!
