Edge of Ruin started out in the summer of 2009 and hail from Lincolnshire area but is now settled in Reading Berkshire. 2,463 fans is indeed an impressive figure for an unsigned band.

The cover depicts a drawing of an evil looking monstrous face with clever use of colour and clearly tells the listener what they are in for – something gory and menacing. I am immediately interested.  The back cover is a silhouetted photograph of the band with an eerie backdrop – but not much information i.e. lyrics inside the CD case, apart from four nice signatures :D - so now to see what Edge of Ruin have unleashed on us all...

Zombie Throw down
This track is tantamount to evil personified. The vocal is extremely savage and raw. Musically it is austere meaning savagely simple in content but it works. Rhythmically challenging, repeat worthy and possesses a slow but none the less interesting beat, which does quicken further on in the track. The guitar is immense and the change in tempo changes within the blink of an eye, which means this track, holds the listeners attention.

Wall of Death
This one will definitely incite the track title at a live gig. It has a hypnotic beat and you can just imagine the bodies in the pit “slamming” to this one! This track holds a regimented beat that really does pulverise.  Incredibly tight and solid and drops in tempo briefly to allow the listener to catch their breath, before surging into a frantic guitar solo and raises the notch another level. The devilish vocals are unimaginably just superb!

Sever the Limb
The groove element has certainly been captured here.  The intensely insane beats are infectious and out of this world brutal.  This track is haunting on all levels and really screams violently of innovative use of guitar. The tempo’s change again and produce a superb cacophony of slamming metal.

Last line of Defence
A really break neck, up tempo track again reflective of groove and insane beats. The breakdowns are relentless and uncompromising. The energy drops temporarily but only to supersede in a cleverly balanced and brutal array of sound offering dimension and sophistication.

It is a well-produced and superb CD from Edge of Ruin.  The groove/thrash element works really well and is very intense listening which finds me reaching for the repeat button yet again. If you want to purchase your copy click on the links above – it is more or less available everywhere.

Hope the band manages to come to the North West at some point in their career, as I can imagine these guys to kick some ass on stage and I for one would love to see them.
