DamageScape – Manchester

Links:

Genre: Hard Rock

In the bands own words:
We are DamageScape - Founded by Gemma Fox, featuring a body of material written over the years that has barely seen the light of day! A collaboration with fellow Collibus and Out-Foxed band members, Stephen Platt and Matthew Mills, plus the much welcome addition of Sarit Black of David R Black. This is a project that has always been in the pipeline, but never quite surfaced, until now. The music itself in its raw state oozes hard rock in nature touching slightly on the edge of metal. The anthemic choruses integrated with delicate verses and heartfelt subject matters echo the bands collective influences such as acts like Alter Bridge, Ozzy Osbourne (solo music), Stone Sour and Foo Fighters. Our aim is compose great songs with a little something for everyone! Our debut E.P 'Was It All Worth While?' is now for sale at our live shows and our website.

The Talented Gemma Fox

I am not known for liking a lot of female fronted bands, mainly because I love my music extremely raw and brutal, but I love my rock roots although now like a wide variety of genres all the way up the rock and metal scale.

Sarit in action

But who could not love DamageScape? Their music is timelessly powerful and so very melodic. Their music resonates vibrantly and is well thought out lyrically as well as musically and stands out as lively, dramatic and extremely captivating, especially when seen and heard live.

Matt still has time for a smile!

Get Away
This track is heaped with chunky thick rhythms combined with immense harmonies and a strong bass hook that adds a profound depth. It winds timelessly like a devious snake wrapped around some superb riffs and is a truly captivating track that is as impressive as it is stunning in controlled grooves. Vocally Gemma really hits the spot without the usual female screech that sometimes grates and her voice is not forced so it is just a natural progression.

Genius - Ste on strings!

My Crime
Beautifully solid track that holds a classic rhythm of soft melody and sumptuous vocal which outlines Gemma’s range nicely and is indeed a blessing to the ear. Enticing strings hold a true and skillful bounty of treasure whilst the drums are powerful and work in really well with the strong bass licks – this is what hard rock is all about, but with a crisp melody and deftly crafted string arrangement.

Refrain
This track is muscular and deeply thrilling.  It captivates a certain beauty that is powered with a strong constant tone. Sung with passion and emotion gives the track good expression and reminds me a little of Heart (Ann and Nancy Wilson) although DamageScape add their own slant on proceedings with mesmerising guitar that adds new excitement and is extremely well carved into DamageScape’s history.

Damage
This is without a doubt my favourite track on the E.P offering amazing harmonies from Sarit and Gemma and again I get those thrilling tingles down my spine with a regular occurrence on listening. I know all the words now as I have listened to this track so much since seeing the band play it live at the Lomax on Saturday 4.5.13. The deep and powerful rhythms just sweep you along on a bed of flowing riffs with strong bass hooks and thunderous drumming to boot. Boy do those spine chilling moments keep coming!

Superb track - Damage from the E.P

To Sum up:
This is one varied E.P and enthuses me 100%. Each track is different and offers four superbly put together pieces of music written by two talented musicians and performed by four people who clearly know what direction they want to go in.  Hauntingly melodic, uncomplicated, exciting to listen to and long after the tracks have played are still buzzing around in your head.

If you haven’t seen DamageScape yet why not track them down at one or both of their next gigs
